The studies covered sugar industry. The analyses of wastes and wastefulness indicators in the sugar industry were performed in the paper. The results showed that processing of sugar beet generates the formation of huge quantities of side products and wastes. The values of indicators obtained in individual factories were very similar.

The aim of this study is to determine the impact of industry on the spatial and functional transformations of the urban tissue on the example of changes in developments of a part of the Za Cukrownią district, which were directly related to the establishment and operation of a “Lublin” Sugar Factory in this area. The study is based on an analysis of the literature on the subject, a review of historical maps and a field visit. The research showed a significant influence of Sugar Factory on this part of Lublin. It manifested itself in the influence of the sugar industry on the spatial form of the area, on the pace of development and its functional character.

Celem pracy jest określenie wpływu przemysłu na przemiany przestrzenno-funkcjonalne tkanki miejskiej na przykładzie zmian w zagospodarowaniu terenu fragmentu dzielnicy Za Cukrownią w Lublinie, bezpośrednio związanych z powstaniem i działalnością na tym terenie Cukrowni „Lublin”. Artykuł został oparty na przeprowadzonej wizji terenowej, inwentaryzacji urbanistycznej oraz przeglądzie literatury przedmiotu i historycznych map. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały znaczny wpływ działalności Cukrowni na rozwój tej części miasta. Przejawiał się on przede wszystkim poprzez oddziaływanie przemysłu cukierniczego na formę przestrzenną obszaru, tempo rozrostu zabudowy oraz jej charakter funkcjonalny.
