The article contains a survay of the recent papers on the <fibrinolytic inhibitors> which regulate the process of <plasminogen activation> - PAI-1 and PAI-2. Both of them belong to serine <protease inhibitors> family and are specific for tPA as well as uPA, forming stable complexes in molar ratio 1 : 1 with them. PAI-1, secreted mainly by <endothelial cells> and <platelets>, is the main plasmic inhibitor of plasminogen activation. PAI-2, originated essentially from <placenta>, appears in <blood> during <pregnancy>.
