Atopowe zapalenie skóry (AZS) to przewlekła choroba zapalna o złożonej etiologii i nie do końca poznanym patomechanizmie. AZS dotyczy nie tylko skóry. To choroba ogólnoustrojowa przebiegająca z udziałem wielu mediatorów reakcji zapalnej. W ostatnich latach podejmuje się liczne próby oceny wpływu AZS na rozwój innych chorób przewlekłych, w tym chorób układu sercowo-naczyniowego (CVD). Niektóre dane potwierdzają, że u chorych z AZS częściej niż w populacji zdrowej występują CVD, a ryzyko ich wystąpienia rośnie wraz z ciężkością AZS. Nie mniej, wiele doniesień nie potwierdza aby AZS implikowało do wystąpienia CVD. Niewątpliwym jest, że zarówno AZS jak i CVD wykazują wspólne czynniki ryzyka: otyłość, palenie papierosów, siedzący tryb życia, stres, niedobór witaminy D. Prawdopodobnie ten wspólny mianownik skutkuje współwystępowaniem obu jednostek. Z uwagi na rosnący odsetek zachorowań na AZS i CVD koniecznym jest prowadzenie dalszych rozważań choćby w zakresie działań prewencyjnych.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease with a complex etiology and pathomechanism not fully understood. AD is not just about the skin. It is a systemic disease that involves many mediators of the inflammatory reaction. In recent years, numerous attempts have been made to assess the effect of AD on the development of other chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease (CVD). Some data confirm that in patients with AD, more often than in the healthy population there is CVD, and the risk of their occurrence increases with the severity of AD. Nevertheless, many reports do not confirm that AD implies CVD. Undoubtedly, both AD and CVD share common risk factors: obesity, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, stress, vitamin D deficiency. This common denominator probably results in the co-occurrence of both diseases. Due to the growing percentage of cases of AD and CVD, it is necessary to conduct further considerations, even in the area of preventive activities.
