Biology has now reached the stage postgenomic era where a sufficient amount of genetic and molecular data on biological systems has been acquired to enter the synthetic stage. The scope of modern biology is parallel with synthetic chemistry as a part of organic chemistry. The synergistic integration of existing disciplines may recreate in artificial systems the emergent properties found in nature. By recognizing biotechnological development in lines with the principles of synthetic biology, research and applied fields in the significant areas are likely to proceed much faster and in a more organized way.
