The contents of chitin (expressed as glucosamine) and glucan soluble in KOH in the mycelium of two species of Aspergillus (niger left at the production of citric acid) and giganteus mut. alba and in Phycomyces blakesleeanus were analysed. These organisms can be cultivated on natural substrate using the brewery waste of the fermentation industry and glucose liquor left at the production of crysalline glucose. The obtaned biomass measured in the amount of dry weight is by 60-200% greater than that obtained on synthetic nutriant media while the chitin content in such mycelia is the same (in Aspergillus) or slightly lower (in Phycomycetes) in comparison with sythetic nutrient solutions.
