The clones of the P. aurelia spp. originated from Lake Beysehir from Turkey (Anatolian Upland) were identified as Paramecium novarelia. It is the first recorded habitat of that species outside Europe. Probably the species, common in Europe, has a wider range than had been supposed and its other habitats might be found in Asia.
