The paper described the up-to-date knowledge on the essential trace element, selenium, in human nutrition, its concentration in blood during pregnancu and in milk during lactation.Changes in selenium concentration in maternal milk during various stages of lactation and selenium concentration in infant blood as well as the selenium intake by breast- and formula-fed infants is discussed.
