The causes of strictures of the larynx and trachea, both acute and chronic, are related at the beginning. Jan Szeparowicz’s (1843–1882), a famous Lvov surgeon, the head of the surgical ward at the National General Hospital ways of life and profession are presented in brief. The treatment of laryngeal and trachea strictures with tin dilators and hard rubber tubes by Leopold Schroetter von Kristelli (1837–1908), a pioneer of the world ENT surgery, was thoroughly analyzed. Szeparowicz presented the general principles of such proceedings, as well as the negative effects of this therapy. Cooperation of Jan Szeparowicz in this field with Teodor Heryng (1847–1925), pioneer of Polish rhinolaryngology is introduced finally.
