Summary In 2003 Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries concerning magnetic resonance imaging". The article presents a short history related to those discoveries as well as the basics of the MRI including the concept of K-space and contrast agents.
