Degeneration ofthe spine causes significant decrease of fitness and reduces capability to work. The main reason of spine dysfunction is degeneration of the intervertebral discs. Accurate diagnosis and classification of back pain and evaluating functional deficiencies is necessary to plan an effective therapy. Medical imaging usually uses expensive techniques of evaluation. In many cases McKenzie method of evaluation allows to choose appropriate treatment without medical imaging. The McKenzie method of classification uses postural tests as well as tests of repeated movements in order to evaluate spine dysfunctions. Symptomatic analysis and assessment of centralisation allows to predict the effectiveness of conservative treatment. There are three main clinical syndromes in the McKenzie classification: derangement, dysfunction syndrome and postural syndrome. Main syndromes are divided into sub- syndromes which allows to individualise kinesytherapeutic treatment. The majority of clinical trials suggest positive effects of treatment based on the McKenzie method of classification.
