Nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) belong to this group of compounds which reveal mutagenic and carcinogenic properties. These compounds are persistent in the environment, and long time exposure even at low concentrations can cause health effect dangerous to a human. The paper describes formation of nitro-PAHs in the air which is a complex process, depending on many factors (weather conditions, presence of other pollutants in the ambient air). The sources of nitro-PAHs formation migration and their transformation in the environment are presented.

Nitrowe pochodne wielopierścieniowych węglowodorów aromatycznych (nitro-WWA) to grupa związków, spośród których liczne wykazują działanie mutagenne i kancerogenne. Związki te są trwałe w środowisku i długotrwałe narażenie nawet na małe stężenia tych związków może prowadzić do poważnych skutków zdrowotnych. W pracy opisano powstawanie nitro-WWA w powietrzu, które jest procesem złożonym, uzależnionym od wielu czynników (takich jak warunki meteorologiczne, czy też obecność innych zanieczyszczeń w powietrzu atmosferycznym) wraz ze wskazaniem źródeł ich powstawania oraz migracji i przemian nitro-WWA w środowisku naturalnym.
