Chronic fatigue is a common symptom but a small investigated. Scientific interests of this problem increased significantly during the last two decades. The same a large number of instruments have been developed to measure chronic fatigue. The aim of this article is to present a review of fatigue measures. These are divided in three groups: scales for healthy people, scales for people with chronic fatigue syndrome, scales for patients with other chronic diseases. Each scale is described in followed aspects: structure, way of answering, interpretation, utility, modification and psychometric properties.

Introduction and objective: Pain is the most common and universal symptom among all patients with the oncological disease. Pain significantly reduces the quality of life, hinders decent functioning, and plays a significant role in the deterioration of the mental health of the patient and his close relatives. The study aimed to discuss the mainstreaming of effective pain treatment and to review various assessments and scales (including Brief Pain Inventory, Illness Perception Questionnaire and Numeric Rating Scale) concerning the psychological aspect of pain in selected neoplastic diseases.State of knowledge: We can distinguish various treatments for pain that can be divided into pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Latest studies revealed that pain treatment appears to be more and more meaningful. Various factors might influence pain perception and response to the applied treatment. Among all malignancies, special attention is paid to the pain issue in following cancers: colon cancer, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and lung cancer, that were described in this paper. Conclusions: Effective pain relief presents a positive effect, both on the physical and mental state of the patient. It also helps to maintain calm mental health among relatives. Nowadays, integration of the best methods for pain relief that are characterized as humanitarian, easily accessible and effective, seems to be one of the biggest challenges for both oncological and palliative health workers.

The manual presents the main methods for studying fish. The general features of the external structure of fish are described: the shape of the body, external organs, the structure and functions of the fins, the types of scales, and the structure of the lateral line. The indicators of morphometric studies of fish with the use of meristic and plastic features according to the classical schemes of measuring fish are also presented. A short description of the statistical method of comparative study of two data samples using the Student's test is given. A method for determining the age of fish by scales is described, as well as a methodology for calculating the annual growth of fish. General information on anatomical structure of fishes is also given. Furthermore, methods of studying the fertility of fish, as well as assessing the nutrition of fish, are described. Particular attention is paid to creating fish preparations: the production of the skeleton of fish, the design of fixed moist preparations and the preparation of a stuffed fish. The presented material has visual illustrations, accompanied by short biological information and forms of tabular material design. The proffered material will be useful for students of the biological and ecological profile, students of natural and agrarian faculties, post-graduate students and young scientists.

Accurate assessment of patients with disorders of consciousness is still a great medical challenge. Despite a recent implementation of state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques (EEG, fMRI, PET and others), proper diagnosis is still seriously hindered. The lack of accurate diagnosis results in the fact that patients’ capacities and full potential are not used. This aspect is particularly important in terms of communicating with patients. The effort of interdisciplinary teams ought to be channelled into creating and developing a complex diagnostic tool. It would aim at providing complete information regarding patients’ state and facilitating possible communication with them. Therefore, according to a number of research teams, it is necessary to make use of behavioural scales such as SMART (Sensory Modality Assessment and Rehabilitation Technique) that are based on observational criteria.

Trafna ocena pacjentów z zaburzeniami świadomości wciąż stanowi poważne wyzwanie medyczne. Pomimo zastosowania w ostatnim czasie nowoczesnych technik neuroobrazowania (EEG, fMRI, PET i innych) prawidłowa diagnoza wciąż jest znacząco utrudniona. Brak precyzyjnego rozpoznania skutkuje niewykorzystaniem możliwości i pełnego potencjału pacjenta.
