The creation of conditions within the teaching and educational system of higher education institutions that shape up rational, pro-health free-time behaviours is one of the key goals of the studies discussed in this paper. The starting point for every planned educational process is to investigate the present state of affairs, i.e. to perform a diagnosis. This paper presents the diagnosis results which indicate, based on the empirical research findings, the forms of leisure activities most often pursued and the motivations behind them. The method we used in our research was a diagnosis survey which covered 1,119 students. The dominant leisure-time activities preferred by the students we surveyed were watching TV and meeting friends. The third most popular student leisure activity was in the case of men spending time in front of a computer and in the case of the women walking. Nearly half of the female students and a little more than half of the male students practise their recreational activities outside the official school physical education classes. The men practise a little more often than the women. Football, cycling and swimming are the most popular sports among the men. The women prefer bicycle riding, gymnastic exercises, aerobics and volleyball. Both the male and female students gave as their first two most important motives for recreational physical activities their health and fitness aspects. The third motive varies, depending on sex. The female students appreciate rest and relaxation which they achieve through recreational physical activities. The men highlight the value of being in touch with nature. Although the students from the surveyed group say they do not engage in physical activity in their free time in any planned way, nearly 50% of them do so on a regular basis.

Abstract The available literature analysed the recommendations and optimal conditions for conducting aqua fitness classes. It was decided to check whether these guidelines are related to the practical use of facilities for conducting this type of recreational activities. The research problem was undertaken to assess the use of local swimming pools for recreational aqua fitness classes and changes in their use in 2012 and 2019. Methods: The study covered all functioning swimming pools within the city of Szczecin, in 2012 (n = 17) and 2019 (n = 16). In order to collect the necessary data, the document analysis technique (load lists of individual facilities and lists of places where aqua fitness classes were conducted by individual entities) and the interview technique (with persons working in the aforementioned facilities, possessing the necessary information, and with the managers of individual businesses that offered aqua fitness classes in Szczecin's swimming pools) were used. Results: Both in 2012 and 2019, the use of Szczecin's swimming pools for recreational aqua fitness was considered satisfactory. Changes in the use of Szczecin's swimming pools for the purposes of recreational aqua fitness took place over the course of several years with two swimming pools being discontinued (due to facility characteristics and conditions - temperature and water depth) and one new, private facility being opened. The number of businesses offering recreational aqua fitness services has not changed. Recreational aqua fitness classes were conducted both at typically recreational, intimate facilities located at hotels, as well as at medium and large facilities, typically sports ones. Conclusions: The conditions, modernity of the facility and location were conducive to increased participation and utilisation of the Szczecin swimming pool base for the purposes of aqua fitness classes.

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of hatha yoga exercises on the shaping of the antero-posterior spinal curvature in first-year students of the University of Physical Education in Katowice who participated in hatha yoga classes. Methods. 72 women and 46 men took part in the study. Hatha yoga classes were held once a week for 90 minutes over a period of 15 weeks. Measurements of the subjects' spines were performed twice, first before the start of the classes and then after all the classes were finished. The students were divided into three groups, the first composed of all the participants in the study, the second of students whom attended the yoga classes and practiced hatha yoga in their free time, whereas the third group was composed of students for whom hatha yoga was their only form of physical exercise. The inclination of the anteroposterior curvature of the spine, i.e. the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis angles, were measured with a Rippstein plurimeter. Results. The results found that after 15 weeks of yoga, a decrease in the thoracic kyphosis angle (ThKA) and lumbar lordosis angle (LLA) occurred in most of the subjects. Differences between the values of these angles before/after yoga were statistically significant in women (p < 0.001), whereas in men, only a decrease of the thoracic kyphosis angle was statistically significant (p < 0.001). After completing the hatha yoga classes, the majority of students (50-62%) were found to have correct angular values of the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis when compared to the measurements taken before the start of classes (40-45%). Conclusion. An assessment on the shaping of the anteroposterior curvature of the spine finds that hatha yoga exercises have a positive impact on one's body posture in the sagittal plane.

The aim of the study was to analyze mood regulation in people practicing hatha yoga in the background of people who do not practice this sport activity. Materials and Methods: 96 Respondents from the Slaskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie province took part in the research The subjects were divided into two groups: practicing hatha yoga (N = 46) and control (N = 49). The analysis was carried out by means of a diagnostic survey using the standardized tool: Mood Control Scales. During the tests, the age and sex of the respondents were taken into account. Results: The average results of males and females exercising and not exercising hatha yoga in the Elevated Mood Scale are very similar to each other and range from 3.91 to 3.97 in women and from 3.87 to 3.91 in men. The results of men in the Depressed Mood Scale, as in the Elevated Mood Scale, differ slightly. However, a large difference, up to 0%, can be noticed by observing the results of women, 2.22 for exercising women and 2.79 for non-exercising women. Conclusions: Practicing hatha yoga has a beneficial effect on the level of mood regulation, contributing to the improvement of the mental state, the implementation of vital tasks and life goals and, consequently, reducing the negative mood and proper social functioning. Decreasing the level of low mood positively affects the quality of life. People with the ability to regulate the mood are less subject to mechanisms exacerbating the negative mood and, consequently, do not undertake the procedures leading to this mood. It can therefore be assumed that a bad mood is not treated in the category of failure, life catastrophe or a state without a way out. The conducted research allowed to show a greater tendency to reduce the level of low mood in women practicing hatha yoga. In the analysis, there were dependencies between the tendencies of mood regulation and gender. These dependencies were seen in women, whereas with men this did not play a significant role research did not play a significant role. However, there was no negative effect of the hatha yoga exercise on the level of mood.

Purpose. Medieval re-enactment groups known also as modern knight societies or fraternities have been developing rapidly in Poland and all over the world, in particular, for the last decade. The following study aims to show that membership in medieval re-enactment groups can be regarded as a novel form of physical recreation. The study focuses on various dimensions of membership, members' motivations, and benefits of participation in such groups. Basic procedures. The study was conducted in 2006 with members of two modern knight societies: "Opole" and "Chorągiew Ziemi Lwowskiej Księcia Władysława II Opolczyka" from Poland. All in all, 63 subjects (44 men and 19 women) aged 14-52 years, with different levels of education took part in the study. Main findings. The results obtained showed that the main reason for joining medieval re-enactment groups for the majority of subjects was to pursue their hobbies. The main expectation concerning membership in such groups is having fun, which was declared by over 50% of subjects. Moreover, over 50% of subjects expected to improve their frame of mind and experience diversity in their daily life as side effects of their membership in modern knight societies. Additionally, 61% of members who specialized in medieval combat re-enactment noted an improvement of their fitness level. Conclusions. Participation in medieval re-enactment groups can be regarded as a new and attractive form of physical recreation as well as an intellectual activity.

Abstract "The horse is what everyone sees", as defined by a horse in 1746, Father Benedict Chmielowski. However, not everyone knows what makes this beautiful animal plays an invaluable role in physical recreation. Paleontologists analyzed the famous wall drawings in the caves of Pech-Marle suggests that there silhouettes of horses presented testify about the magic powers attributed to them, preventing human illness and assist its life energy. The work aims to raise awareness of people as a huge positive impact horses have on the development of children and adults at all levels of their lives and how much they can do good for them. One of the forms of contact with a horse, ride and "the life of the stable" is riding camp, which describes aspects of the job. In this paper, erected the following objectives: 1) The selection criteria for participants in specific equestrian center. 2) To investigate the involvement and the scheme of work instructors. 3) Determining the organization of free time after the completion of all activities foreseen in the camp. 4) Examine the views of children and young people about riding camps as a means of active rest. 5) Gathering information on the experiences of the respondents after their stay at the camp bonuses. 2) Zbadanie zaangażowania i systematyki pracy instruktorów.
