Introduction: Analysis of the occurrence of anorexia nervosa involves the possible contribution of orexigenic peptides, including orexins A and B, ghrelin, galanin, neuropeptide Y and anorexigenic peptides which are represented by leptin, proopiomelanocortin (POMC), or transcript regulated by cocaine and amphetamine (CART). Aim: The study was aimed at examining the correlation between the concentrations of orexigenic peptides: orexins A and B (OXA and OXB) and ghrelin (GRE) in plasma and the body mass index (BMI) in AN patients. Material and method: The study involved 25 girls with anorexia nervosa. The reference group consisted of 20 healthy girls. In all of them the plasma concentration of OXA, OXB, GRE and glucose was determined once. The blood was drawn on empty stomach, in the morning after 8-hours fasting. The concentration of OXA and OXB was measured using commercial radioimmunological sets made by Phoenix Pharmaceuticals, Mountain View, California. The concentration of total GRE was determined using commercial radioimmunological sets made by Linci Research, INC. The procedure was applied pursuant to the procedure recommended by Phoenix. Results: In AN patients, of three analysed orexigenic peptides OXA, OXB and GRE only two – OXA and GRE significantly changed their plasma concentration in acute phase of the disease. OXA concentration in AN patients’ plasma was statistically significantly lower, whereas GRE concentration – statistically significantly higher, as compared to the reference group. At the same time a statistically significantly positive correlation was found between OXA concentration and BMI value and statistically significantly negative correlation between the concentration of GRE and BMI. Conclusions: In patients with anorexia nervosa (mainly its restrictive form) OXA and GRE significantly change their plasma concentration in acute phase of the disease.

W powstawaniu jadłowstrętu psychicznego (anorexia nervosa, AN) rozpatruje się udział peptydów oreksygenicznych i anoreksygenicznych. Celem pracy było zbadanie zależności pomiędzy stężeniami: oreksyn A i B (OXA i OXB) oraz greliny (GRE) w osoczu a wskaźnikiem masy ciała (BMI) u chorych z AN. Badaniem objęto 25 dziewcząt z jadłowstrętem psychicznym. Grupę odniesienia stanowiło 20 zdrowych dziewcząt. U wszystkich oznaczano jednorazowo w osoczu stężenie OXA, OXB, GRE i glukozy. U chorych z AN, spośród trzech analizowanych peptydów oreksygenicznych: OXA, OXB i GRE jedynie dwa z nich – OXA i GRE zmieniły istotnie swoje stężenie w osoczu w ostrej fazie choroby. Stężenie OXA w osoczu chorych z AN było statystycznie istotnie niższe, a stężenie GRE – statystycznie istotnie wyższe niż w grupie odniesienia. Jednocześnie wykazano statystycznie istotną dodatnią korelację pomiędzy stężeniem OXA a wartością BMI i statystycznie istotną ujemną korelację pomiędzy stężeniem GRE a BMI.
