The paper presents some information about current state of knowledge of the risk of engineered nanoparticles and nanotechnology for the environment and human health. The nanotechnology influences all industrial and public sectors including healthcare, agriculture, transport, energy, information and communication technologies. Both, the potential benefits and risks, associated with the application of engineered nanoparticles have been widely debated in recent years. The most important problem for the future research is the evaluation of the risk associated with nanomaterials exposure.

Artykuł omawia aktualny stan wiedzy nt. ryzyka związanego z wpływem nanocząstek projektowanych i nanotechnologii na środowisko i zdrowie. Nanotechnologia znalazła szerokie zastosowanie m.in. w ochronie zdrowia, rolnictwie, transporcie, energetyce, technologiach informatycznych. Szeroko debatowane są obecnie zarówno dobrodziejstwa, jak ryzyko, związane z zastosowaniem nanocząstek projektowanych. Do najważniejszych zadań nauki o nanocząsteczkach należy opracowanie właściwych kryteriów oceny ryzyka, związanego z narażeniem środowiskowym i zawodowym na nanomateriały.
