Vindoline and its analogues are important constituents of the Madagascan periwinkle Catharanthus roseus, and some of them are valuable chemotherapy drugs used in treatment for some types of cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma, breast and lung cancer. The search for semi-synthetic congeners of natural substances is still an important task for organic chemistry. In this communication we report the synthesis of five new vindoline derivatives, 15-(2-methoxyphenyl)vindoline 11, 15-(3-methoxyphenyl)vindoline 12, 15-(2-nitrophenyl)vindoline 13, 15-(3-cyanophenyl)vindoline 15, and 15-(4-cyanophenyl)vindoline 16 using the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction as the key step. X-Ray analysis of compound 16 is also reported.

This review article is based on scientific and popular science publications as well as articles from branch magazines that refer to the production of alcohol in Poland based on traditional grain raw materials. New trends in the production of broadly understood alcoholic beverages point to a return to traditional raw materials and production methods, preferably carried out in small, traditional distillery – crafted beers, local wines or spirits. Consumers desire a return to tradition, however, it is equally important to maintain the right quality and efficiency of production. The future of alcoholic beverages based on malted and unmalted cereals in Poland is associated with the search for specific varieties of cereals, their mixtures as well as fermentation and distillation processes that will allow the production of ‘craft spirits’.

Obesity is a foremost but preventable cause of deaths globally. It is a significant risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart failure, and diabetes. Natural products such as some foods, fruits, medicinal plants have been known to be functional in the management of Obesity. This article is aimed at reviewing the weight loss and anti-obesity potentials of Ginger (Zingiber officinale), Avocado (Persea americana) and Green Tea (Epigallocatechin gallate, EGCG). Google Scholar, PubMed, NCBI and Elsevier databases were searched from 2004 to 2020 using specific keywords. Searching was restricted to English language. Seventeen articles (Eleven human studies and six animal studies) were included in this review. Majority of the research papers that were considered in this review supported the weight loss and anti-obesity potentials of these natural products in obese human and animal subjects by lowering most of the clinical markers of obesity. Some of the anti-obesity mechanisms proposed by the authors include suppression of lipogenesis, inhibition of ghrelin secretion, e.t.c. This article also established the need for future trials.
