Introduction Little is known about the quality of adaptations of medical facilities that enable access to comprehensive gynaecological care for women with motor disability. The purpose of the study was to gather opinions of women using wheelchairs on the subject concerning the degree of adaptation of gynaecological offices for their needs. Material and methods The study group included 120 women with motor disability, moving with use of a wheelchair. The most common causes of disability of the studied women were: spinal cord injury (31.7%) and cerebral palsy (29.2%). The study was conducted with use of an original survey questionnaire consisting of 20 questions on the subject matter and 6 questions about respondent’s particulars. Results The study has shown that 20% of women have never visited a gynaecologist and 66.7% of them indicated a difficulty to find an appropriately adapted doctor’s office to be the cause of this situation. In a 0–5 scale, the women who had gynaecological visits most commonly rated the adjustment of gynaecology consultation rooms in their places of residence as 0 (40% of women). 75% of women answered that accessibility of the gynaecology consultation rooms affects the frequency of their visits at a gynaecologist. Conclusions Based on the studied group of women, difficult access to gynaecology consultation rooms adapted to the needs of women on wheelchairs was found. Modification of the environment by removal of the most common barriers and creation of an accessible environment is important for appropriate gynaecological prophylaxis in women using wheelchairs.
Strong anthiseptic activity of essential oils has been known for many centuries. The volatile or essential oils – aetherolea are secondary plant metabolites containing different compounds. A large number of essential oils and their constituents have been investigated for their microbial properties against some bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. Their antimicrobial activity is strictly connected to chemical composition. So far there have been no reports on growing resistance of bacterial and fungal strains to constituents of oils. Various essential oils produce pharmacological effect demonstrating anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant properties. Essential oils of tea tree, thyme, oregano, savoury, basil, sage, clove, cinnamon were found to possess the strongest antifungal properties. The highest activity was reported for phenols – thymol, carvacrol and eugenol. These are thyme, oregano and savoury oils containing thymol and carvacrol as well as clove and cinnamon leaf oils containing eugenol. One of the most effective essential oil is Melaleuca alternifolia oil. Tea tree oil showed high activity against Candida sp., Trichophyton sp. and Microsporumsp. Thyme, oregano and rosemary oils appeared to have a wide spectrum of antibiotic activity against Candida albicans, Trichophyton sp., Epidermophyton floccosum and Microsporum canis. Clove oil and cinnamon leaf oil showed significant growth inhibition of Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus parasiticus, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans. Volatile oils and volatile oils compounds have been shown the strong immunostimulatory effect – Pini Oil, Citri Oil, Geraniae Oil and a-pinen. Essential oils are frequently used in dermatology, especially in fungal infections. With good results oils are use in gynaecology and respiratory tract infections.

Olejki eteryczne wykazują m.in. właściwości przeciwzapalne, przeciwbólowe i antyoksydacyjne. Do najbardziej skutecznych olejków o najsilniejszych właściwościach przeciwgrzybiczych należą olejki pozyskiwane z drzewa herbacianego, tymianku, oregano, cząbru, bazylii, szałwii, goździkowca i cynamonowca. Największą aktywnością charakteryzują się olejki zawierające fenole - tymol, karwakrol i eugenol. Olejki tymiankowy, oreganowy i cząbrowy zawierają tymol i karwakrol, natomiast pozyskiwane z goździkowca i z liści cynamonowca zawierają eugenol. Jeden z najbardziej efektywnych olejków jest pozyskiwany z drzewa herbacianego (Melaleuca alternifolia). Olejek ten wykazuje wysoką aktywność wobec Candida sp., Trichophyton sp. i Microsporum sp. Olejki tymiankowy, oreganowy i rozmarynowy ze względu na szerokie spektrum aktywności mogą być polecane w leczeniu zakażeń wywoływanych przez Candida albicans, Trichophyton sp., Epidermophyton floccosum i Microsporum canis. Olejek goździkowy i cynamonowy z liści wykazują znaczące działanie hamujące wobec Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus parasiticus, Candida albicans i Cryptococcus neoformans. Olejki eteryczne oraz ich składniki mogą posiadać silne działanie immunostymulujące, zaliczamy do nich: olejek sosnowy, cytrynowy, geraniowy, α-pinen. Olejki eteryczne znalazły zastosowanie w leczeniu infekcji dermatologicznych pochodzenia grzybiczego. Dobre wyniki przynosi również stosowanie olejków w ginekologii i w terapii zakażeń układu oddechowego.
