Introduction: Recognition of the multiple positive effects of the physical activity confirms its influence on human’s health. Undertaking of the health oriented conducts plays an important role in the promotion of the health and in the creating of the healthier future. Academic youth should be aware of the influence of certain activities on health. The aim of the research was to analyse the physical activity performed by the full-time students of the medical and nonmedical degree courses.Material and methods: The research was conducted at the turn of 2012 and 2013. The research group, containing 553 person (n=553), consisted of the students from six Polish, both medical and non-medical, university colleges. The research utilizes the method of the diagnostic survey. Technique of the research based on the poll whose questionnaire had been created by the authors for the purpose of the research. Accuracy of the research tool was established within the method of objective judges, splithalf method was used to determine reliability (according to Spearman-Brown result 0.86). In order to define the existence of the differences or correlations between analysed immeasurable parameters chi-squared and Fisher’s exact tests were used. Results: The substantial majority of the respondents – 79,5% (n=439) described themselves as physically active. The forms of activity that are performed most often among the students are: cycling – 40,5% (n=220), team sport – 27,1% (n=147), dog walking – 27,1% (n=147), group activities (aerobics, zumba, salsa) – 21,2% (n=115) and swimming – 20,8% (n=113). The sex and the faculty of the studies are both important variables that have got statistically significant impact on the choice of the form of activity. Majority of the respondents – 78,3% (n=432) chooses the type of the physical activity basing on their likings and the amount of the spare time – 42,9% (n4237). Exercising of the physical activity is regarded as a pleasure by more than a half of the respondents, 40,4% of the respondents (n=222) treat it as a form of spending their free time. 20,2% (n=111) deals with stress and relaxes when performing physical activity. More than a half of the respondents – 57% (n=315) admits to not performing physical activity regularly. According to 56,8% (n=314) of interviewees lack of the spare time is the major obstacle in performing regular physical activity. Other groups blame lack of the motivation – 24,2% (n=134) and ordinary laziness – 22,2% (n=123) for that. Concern about the good frame of mind and physical disposition tends to be the crucial motive for performing physical activity for most of the respondents – 51,1% (n4277). Conclusions: More than a half of the respondents doesn’t perform physical activity regularly.

Dodatkowo chorych motywowano poprzez krótkie wiadomości tekstowe i rozmowy telefoniczne. Wyniki: Po 6 miesiącach interwencji leczniczych w grupie nadciśnienia opornego odnotowano istotną zmianę w zakresie liczby kroków (17 361 ± 6815 względem 23 067 ± 7741; p < 0,005), równoważnika metabolicznego (1,325 ± 0,3 względem 1,464 ± 0,3; p = 0,001), czasu odpoczynku (1595 ± 265 względem 1458 ± 292 min; p < 0,05) i czasu snu (1278 ± 228 względem 1147 ± 270 min; p = 0,02), ocenianych na bazie 3-dniowych pomiarów akcelerometrycznych.
Introduction. Balance is the ability to provide the body with a position in space. The balance system consists of the vestibular organ, organ of vision and proprioception. A thorough anamnesis can provide valuable information to help diagnose and plan treatment and rehabilitation. Posturography is an examination registering and analysing the displacement of the center of gravity projection on the stabilometric platform, also called the objective test of Romberg. It can be carried out in different variants, eg with open or closed eyes. Aim. Assessment of the influence of physical activity on balance functions in physiotherapy students based on the analysis of posturographic results in this group. Material and methods. The study group comprised 60 healthy students aged 21 to 26 including 50 women and 10 men. Based on the results of the questionnaire, the respondents were divided into two groups – physically active students (n=36) and students with limited physical activity (n=24). The study consisted of performing two thirty-second measurements of the balance of the test subject, first with the eyes open and then closed. Results. Most of the evaluated parameters proved to be better in sporty individuals, suggesting that sports activity supports balance and the performance of spino-vestibular reflex. Conclusions. Regular physical activity, building a better central stabilization, and improving equivalent responses through physical activity, translate directly into proportion to the efficiency of the balance system.

Wprowadzenie. Cel pracy. Ocena wpływu aktywności fizycznej na funkcję układu równowagi u studentów fizjoterapii w oparciu o analizę wyników badań posturograficznych. Materiał i metody. Wyniki. Większość ocenianych parametrów okazała się lepsza u osób aktywnych fizycznie, sugerując, że aktywność sportowa może wspomagać pracę układu równowagi i sprawność odruchów przedsionkowo-rdzeniowych. Wnioski.
Choroba Parkinsona (PD) należy do zwyrodnieniowych schorzeń ośrodkowego układu nerwowego, którego podstawowym objawem są zaburzenia motoryczne, będące konsekwencją degeneracji neuronów dopaminergicznych drogi nigrostriatalnej.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder in which progressive deterioration of the nigro-striatal dopaminergic pathway leads to motor disturbances. The underlying etiology responsible for the pathological changes observed in PD is still unclear. Currently available treatments are only symptomatic, and their effectiveness decreases with the progression of the disease. For this reason, it is of paramount importance to search for new forms of therapy which may accompany pharmacological treatment. Therefore the aim of this paper is to present the current knowledge concerning the impact of physical activity on the reduction of PD symptoms. Based on the results of studies performed in human and animal models of PD, it has been shown that long-term increased physical activity improves behavioural patterns of movement, and enhances angiogenesis, neurogenesis and synaptogenesis in the brain. It also affects the activation of signaling pathways of neurotrophic factors. The forms of physical activity which are currently known to provide relief for the symptoms of PD are - breathing exercises, gait and balance exercises, strengthening exercises, stretching, relaxation, Tai Chi and dancing.
Physical activity has been shown to decrease the incidence of breast and colon cancers and most likely of cancers of the prostate, endometrium and lung. The mechanism of this effect is very complex and not completely understood. Physical activity has an impact on the immune system (increased number of natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T cells), may reduce inflammation (significantly decreased plasma TNF-α, IL-6, and CRP), has effects on sex hormones (decreased bioavailability of estrogens and increased concentration of sex hormone-binding globulin) and influences insulin metabolism. Recent publications have shown that physical activity after cancer diagnosis and treatment is associated with reduced risk of breast and colon cancer recurrence and increases the survival rates (40% to 50% lower risk of cancer death). It is therefore important to encourage patients to physical activity. American Cancer Society has given recommendation for moderate exercise for at least 30, or better 45–60 min, on at least 5 days per week.

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate physical fitness of rural children and adolescents on the example of pupils of the School Complex in Ołdaki, Poland. Material and method: The study covered 79 pupils of grades IV–VI of the primary school and I–III of the lower secondary school of the School Complex in Ołdaki. The study used K. Zuchora’s Index of Physical Fitness and a diagnostic survey method based on the author-prepared questionnaire. Results: The study conducted among pupils of the School Complex in Ołdaki showed that physical fitness of children and adolescents from the countryside was at a relatively good level. Of the components of the Index of Physical Fitness, the worst results were obtained for abdominal muscle strength. However, the subjects showed very good flexibility, endurance and speed. Girls and boys obtained similar test results. Striking is the fact that the oldest subjects, i.e. pupils in grade III of the lower secondary school, obtained the worst results both in the entire test and in individual exercises. Conclusions: The pupils knew how to take care of their health; they were able to indicate the benefits of being physically active, were eager to take part in physical education classes and actively spent their free time. They mostly believed that they could eat healthy. Only a small percentage of pupils admitted to have had contact with stimulants and fast-foods, which was a confirmation of the fact that they were taking good care of their health. Fitness tests proved that the pupils’ fitness was at a satisfactory level. There was no noticeable difference in the results obtained by girls and boys, which indicated similar performance in all pupils. The evaluation of the pupils’ activity in their free time proved that they were more willing to spend it actively, most often playing football and cycling 2–3 times a week.

Analizowano przydatność kwestionariuszy: Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire, Kaiser Physical Activity Survey, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Paffenbarger Physical Activity Questionnaire, Seven-Day Physical Activity Recall, Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire, oraz Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents and Adults.

Regular physical activity in the period before and during pregnancy largely determines the correct course of this important state in the life ofa woman. The purpose of this paper is to present the subjective research tools most commonly used to assess physical activity in pregnant women. The following questionnaires were studied: Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire, Kaiser Physical Activity Survey, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Paffenbarger Physical Activity Questionnaire, Seven-Day Physical Activity Recall, Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire and Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents and Adults. Due to the phenomenon of limiting physical activity among pregnant women, reported in numerous studies conducted around the world, anda negligible amount of Polish research on the assessment of physical activity in pregnant women, it seems reasonable to promote methods that allow for the observation of trends of this phenomenon in Poland. It seems that tracking trends is important for the work of doctors, midwives and physiotherapists, whose role is to, among other things, promote healthy behaviour.
Materiał i metody: zbadano 185 osób - 98 kobiet (53% ogółu) i 87 mężczyzn (47%). Wyniki: Odnotowano korelacje wieku i momentu zdiagnozowania choroby. Wiek badanych kobiet i mężczyzn ujemnie koreluje z fizycznym i psychicznym komponentem zdrowia, zaś samoocena zdrowia słabo koreluje z aktywnością fizyczną.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a metabolic disorder that is characterized by insulin resistance in combination with impairedinsulin secretion from the beta cells of the pancreas. Pharmacological treatment largely consists of supplementing theinsulin level, the use of medication which improves the sensitivity of cells to insulin and that affects their production. Of essentialimportance is the modification of lifestyle, especially adaptation to a diabetic diet and weight reduction. One of the most important risk factors of diabetes is the low level of physical activity of potential patients. Aim of the study: To determine the relationship of selected elements of lifestyle, in particular, physical activity on the selfassessment of health in patients with type 2 diabetes.Material and methods: 185 people - 98 females (53% of the total) and 87 males (47%) were examined: these being patients with diagnosed type 2 diabetes of a diabetic clinic from several Silesian cities. In this study, psychometric techniques supplemented by basic anthropometry with the measurement of body height, body weight and the circumferences of the waist and hips were used. The survey consisted of metrics and standardized questionnaires: physical activity - HPA, quality of life related with health - SF-36. For statistical analyses used were: descriptive statistics - mean and standard deviation, differences level calculated by analyses of variance (ANOVA). Dependencies using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The adopted level of statistical significance was: p≤0.05.Results: The correlation between the time of diabetes diagnosis and age were statistically significant. There were no gender, use of diet, BMI and WHR statistical significant differences between the patients who adhered to the dietary recommendations in practice, and those patients who neglected this type of therapy. Differences between physical activity with regard to gender, BMI and WHR index were no found. Both in females and males, age negatively correlated with physical and mental components of health, while self-assessment of health indifferently correlates with physical activity. Conclusions: Physical activity in patients with type 2 diabetes was at a low-level. Declared physical activity and diet had no impact on the BMI and WHR index. Physical activity positively correlated with the self-assessment of health.
Introduction: Development of surgery methods, generally known success of the treatment which is hip arthroplasty as well as increasing number of younger and younger patients caused bigger and bigger expectations against the treatment. People, who decide to have a hip prostheses, want not only the improvement in joint function and pain relief but also possibility to take part in different physical activities. The aim of this study was evaluation of patients expectations connected with physical activity after hip arthroplasty and their level of knowledge towards physical activity after surgery. Material and methods: The participants were 32 patients, who were subjected primary hip arthroplasty at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopaedics of the Ministry of Defence’s Military Institute of the Health Services, Central Clinical Hospital in 2010. The average age of these patients was 62,9 (range 40-81). Interrogative tool was the questionnaire. PASW Statistic 18 Program was used to work up investigation results. Results: The results of this study indicate that patients expectations connected with physical activity after total hip arthroplasty are minor. Conclusion: That is probably because the patients level of physical activity before a surgery is very low and their knowledge about possibilities in physical activity with hip prostheses can be limited.
Można przypuszczać, że czynności precyzyjne ręki wykorzystywane w życiu codziennym i wcześniejszej pracy zawodowej podlegają wolniejszym procesom inwolucyjnym niż ogólna sprawność fizyczna.

The ability to perform exact and precise manual movements plays a crucial role in each man's everyday life often deciding about his/her professional career. The aim of the work is the evaluation of precise motor skills of a hand in elderly women representing different levels of locomotor activity. The investigation comprised 153 students from the University of the Third Age in Wroclaw (35 elderly women with the higher level of activity and 118 elderly women with the lower level of motor activity). In the study on precise motor movements of a hand, the MLS test from the panel of the Vienna Test System was used. The results show that the level of precise motor movements of the hand is good. No differences were observed between the women undertaking regular physical activities. It is assumed that precise hand movements used in everyday life and in the previous profession are subject to slower involution processes than the general physical fitness.
Materiał i metody: Badania przeprowadzono w roku akademickim 2017/2018 wśród studentów I-go rocznika Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej w Tarnowie, na kierunkach: wychowanie fizyczne, fizjoterapia i pielęgniarstwo. Ogółem przebadano 209 studentów, w tym 153 kobiety (73,2%) i 56 mężczyzn (26,8%). W badaniach zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, a do zebrania materiału empirycznego wykorzystano ankietę.

Introduction: Physical activity, apart from enhancing proper body functioning, is a natural need of every human being, and taken up regularly brings numerous health benefits. The aim of the research was to define the level of physical activity in leisure time as well as to present the forms of physical activity preferred by students. Material and methods: The research was conducted in the academic year 2017/2018 among the first year students of The State Higher Vocational School in Tarnów, majoring in Physical Education, Physiotherapy and Nursing. The survey covered the total of 209 students, 153 females (73.2%) and 56 males (26.8%). A diagnostic survey was applied as the research method, and the empirical material was collected with the use of a questionnaire. Results: The research showed that the level of students’ physical activity varied depending on both sex and the field of study. The majority of the respondents (66.5%) showed a low level of physical activity. The female students most frequently practised swimming (22.2%) and running (13.1%), whereas the male students preferred football (32.1%), gym workout (17.9%) and, similarly to the females, swimming (14.3%). Conclusions: On the basis of the research results and the formulated conclusions it can be stated that taking decisive and effective actions in order to develop positive attitudes towards physical culture among children and youth and to prepare them for lifelong care for their body should be a priority.
Zbadano wysokość i masę ciała, obliczono wskaźnik BMI.

Introduction: Physical activity is considered to be one of the keystones of a healthy lifestyle and an indispensable condition for correct body posture. The purpose of the study was to check the body posture of young males with above-average physical activity and how the position of the trunk changes after extending the arms forward. The frequency and intensity of back pain among males in the study were also analyzed.Material and methods: The study involved 50 young, healthy males, whose high daily physical activity was confirmed by the IPAQ questionnaire. Body height and weight were checked, and BMI was calculated. The position of the trunk in three planes was examined using the ultrasonic Zebris Pointer system. The examination was performed twice: in the habitual standing position and in the position taken from the Matthiass test: standing position with the arms in front of the trunk (90o). The data was prepared in the Statistica v13 program. Results: The male participants were characterized by an incorrect depth of physiological curvatures of the spine and asymmetry of the position of the shoulder and pelvic girdles in the frontal plane. Extending the arms forward in a standing position resulted in flatter thoracic kyphosis, rounder lumbar lordosis and tilting the trunk backwards. Periodic pain sensation in the lumbar spine was reported by approximately 60% of participants. It was a mild pain that did not require painkillers. There were no significant relationships between the quality of the trunk position and pains in the lumbar region. Conclusions: High physical activity turned out to be insufficient to ensure correct body posture and efficiency of core muscles. Postural education should be a permanent element of health promotion programs aimed at increasing the quality of life.
Introduction: The disc disease of the lumbosacral spine is frequently occurs whose the main cause is the intervertebral disc degeneration. Pain in the lower back section of the spine and a considerable impairment of physical fitness is the main ailment. It is a chronic disease with periodic recurrent episodes of intense pain. Coping with the disease means, among other things, reinforcement perivertebral muscles through regular physical exercise. It is assumed that sociodemographic factors will be related to undertaking health-promoting actions in the form of physical activity adjusted to the degenerative disc disease of the lumbosacral spine. The aim of the paper was to answer the question whether demographic variables have any connection with undertaking physical activity adjusted to the disease of the lower back section of the spine. Material and methods: The study was a longitudinal type of research (two measurement points at half yearly interval) and it covered 92 people in whom the disc disease of the lumbosacral spine was found by means of MRI scan. The study used an interview (the sociodemographic data), the eleven-point VAS scale, and a questionnaire concerned undertaken phisical activity. Results: The patients showed a low level of physical activity undertaken due to the disease of the spine (M=2.33 SD=2.21). A dependency between younger age (H(2, N=92)=4.5, p<0.08) and higher education (H(3, N=91)=16.62,p=0.001) and undertaking physical activity adjusted to the disease of the lower back section of the spine was noticed. Conclusions: The people who took part in the study undertook little physical activity due to the spine disease. Age and education are related to the undertaking of physical activity adjusted to the disease of the lower back section of the spine.
Introduction: Disc disease of the lumbosacral spine is a frequent ailment from which younger and younger people suffer. The main symptom of this disease is severe pain. The disease impairs not only physical condition of patients but also their social and psychological life. It is a chronic illness, therefore it requires changing of one’s unhealthy lifestyle to healthy living on a permanent and regular basis. One of manifestations of a health-promoting attitude in the disc disease is the performance of regular exercise chosen for the ailment in order to reinforce perivertebral muscles. Physical activity is both treatment and prevention in the disc disease of the lumbosacral spine. As there is an opinion that pain experienced by the ill people is the main motivating factor for treating the disc disease of the lumbosacral spine, the authors decided to investigate whether there is a relation between pain felt and physical activity undertaken in people with the disc disease of the lumbosacral spine and whether the relation is modified by sociodemographic variables. Material and methods: The study was a longitudinal type of research (two measurement points at half yearly interval) and it covered 92 people who suffer from disc disease of the lumbosacral spine. The diagnosis was found by MRI scan. The study used an interview (the sociodemographic data), the VAS scale, and a questionnaire on the indicator of healthpromoting attitude in the disc disease specially prepared for the purpose of this project. Results: For the group of people with the disc disease of the lumbosacral spine, no relation was found between the pain felt and the physical activity undertaken. A positive relation between the pain felt and the physical activity was found only for the group of younger patients. Conclusions: The pain felt may be the motivating factor for undertaking regular physical exercise only for the group of the youngest patients examined.
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of physical activity, quality of life, anxiety, stress and depression in patients after implantation of cardioverterdefibrillator (ICD) who have experienced or not the incident electrical storm with multiple ICD interventions. Material and methods: There was 36 patients with ICD in aged from 39 to 83 years. Patients were divided into two groups: those who had a Storm (+) or no Storm (-) incident electrical storm. In the group Storm (+) significantly more often occurred loss of consciousness before ICD implantation and after discharge, than in the Storm (-). Results: Also frequently found problems with life energy and vigor, which may limit the opportunities gainful employment and doing housework. Other parameters of quality of life were not different between groups. The level of stress and week-long physical activity was similar in both groups. Conclusions: 1. The incidence of electrical storm in ICD patients significantly increases the level of anxiety and influences the occurrence of mild depressive symptoms. 2. Electrical storm does not affect the increase in the level of stress and the week-long physical activity. 3. Electrical Storms limits the opportunities gainful employment and doing housework. 4. Frequent loss of consciousness in patients prior to ICD may indicate an increase in the frequency of electrical storms occurring after implantation of the device.

INTRODUCTION: It is known that regular physical activity (PA) brings many health benefits. However, during the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 19) pandemic the lifestyle, everyday work, social behavior, quality of life, ways and forms of spending free time changed. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the level of PA in menopausal women. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study material consisted of 126 women before the onset of the pandemic and 114 women during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was carried out in the area of Silesia. The research tool was a short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). RESULTS: A statistically significant correlation was observed in the case of a difference in the moderate level of PA (627.32 MET-min/week before COVID-19 and 138.6 during COVID-19, p = 0.01) and walking (1952.25 MET-min/week before COVID-19 and 422.63 MET-min/week during COVID-19, p = 0.03). The results showed that the time devoted to moderate PA decreased statistically. The mean days decreased from 2.8 to 0.96 (p = 0.02) and the mean duration of moderate PA decreased from 39.92 to 15.61 minutes (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly affected the level of PA in menopausal women. The respondents exercised much less often and the time devoted to PA was also shortened. The subjects most often chose walking as the form of PA.

WSTĘP: Regularna aktywność fizyczna (physical activity – PA) niesie za sobą wiele korzyści zdrowotnych. Jednak pod-czas pandemii COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 19) zmieniły się styl życia, codzienna praca, zachowania społeczne, jakość życia, sposoby i formy spędzania wolnego czasu. MATERIAŁ I METODY: Materiał badawczy stanowiło 126 kobiet przed wybuchem pandemii i 114 kobiet podczas pandemii COVID-19. Badania prowadzono na terenie Śląska. Narzędziem badawczym były skrócone wersje Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (International Physical Activity Questionnaire – IPAQ) oraz Skali Oceny Menopauzy (Menopause Rating Scale – MRS). WYNIKI: Istotną statystycznie korelację zaobserwowano w przypadku różnicy w umiarkowanym poziomie PA (627,32 MET-min/tydzień przed COVID-19 i 138,6 podczas COVID-19, p = 0,01) i chodzeniu (1952,25 MET-min/tydzień przed COVID-19 i 422,63 MET-min/tydzień podczas COVID-19, p = 0,03).
The aaim of this work is to describe at what level undertaking of physical activity is combined with life quality sense among healthy women and those after breast cancer treatment. The study covered 196 women, of whom 94 had had mastectomy. Basing on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the participating women were divided within each of the analysed groups, into physically active and inactive. The perception of quality of life was established on the basis of Quality of Life questionnaire according to Kowalik [1]. Results: 1. Most of the examined women positively evaluate their life, while higher satisfaction is reported by healthy women. 2. Physically active and inactive Amazons significantly differ at satisfaction and feeling of positive and negative emotions. While among healthy women participation at physical education did not differ significantly them at life quality sense. Conclusions: it seems that through physical activity women after mastectomy experience more positive feelings and emotions, and thus are happier.
