Particle size distribution (PSD) in laboratory made crude oil-seawater emulsion for various salinities and time of storing was determined using a microscope. It was established thar the type of particle size distribution changes with salinity and time.

The solar energy influence on light attenuation coefficient (LAC) spectrum and particle size distribution (PSD) of laboratory crude oil-seawater emulsion was investigated. It was demonstrated that light facilities dispergation of emulsion and cauises the increase of LAC in ultraviolet range during storing.PSD of crude oil droplets (d ? 0.5 ?m) in emulsion did not depend on lighting conditions during storing of emulsion.Because of increase of lighy attenuation coefficient selectivity for illuminated emulsion, the increase of number of small droplets (d ?0.5 ?m) of crude oil is highly probable.

The dependence of the refractive index of artificial and natural Baltic seawater on temperature, n=,(T), has been investigated. The measurements have been carried out at different wavelengths of visible radiation.A second dependence of the refractive index on temperature has been observed. The changes of refractive index with depth, n=n(z), have been investigated in field measurements in the Baltic Sea. The influence of crude oil emulsion on the refractive index is discussed.

The presented article is an effort to sort out the interpretation of experimental results concerning changes of light attenuation coefficient in seawatee which was polluted with crude oil in a controlled way.In particular, approximations of measurements results by selected theoretical curves are performed, and basing on the interpretation of the curves' parameters, the conclusions about optical properties of the madium are drawn.

Due to necessity of standarization of the material used for investigations of the oil influence on seawater properties, the set of three types of oil has been prepared. The paper presents the mathod of preparing of the oil samples along with physico-chemical data concerning the oils used.
