The purpose of this report is to talk, in an instructive way, about multilayer neutron mirrors and their applications developed in our institute. The outline is as follows. Basic properties and the reflectivity of the multilayer neutron mirror are given. The applications of the multilayer neutron mirrors, i.e., multilayer neutron monochromators, multilayer neutron polarizers, supermirrors, are presented. Measuring methods of the reflectivity and the polarization are secondly reported.

We present the results concerning the excitation and emissions spectra of Poly (N-carbazole) (PVK) blended with poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropene), (PVDF-HfP) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Thin films of PVK blended with PVDF-HfP (PVK:PVDF-HfP) and PVP (PVK:PVP) were prepared using doctor blade technique on spectrosil substrate. The influences of polymer blends on the excitation and emission spectra were observed under UV excitation source of a xenon lamp. The result shows a discrepancy in the maximum excitation and emission for each sample. The possible energy transfer and recombination mechanisms have been related with singlet-singlet semi-empirical INDO electronic calculation and FTIR measurements.

With a newly developed technique, we measure voltage, electric field and charge distribution of high field domains in semi-insulating GaAs under high electric bias. Based on these new quantitative data resolved in time and space, which are synchronized with the current pulses, we confront the generally accepted model which explains the domain formation with field enhanced trapping from EL2.

A two-axis goniophotometer is constructed at National Metrology Institute of Turkey (TUBITAK UME) for characterizing photometric properties of compact light sources. With the new device, total luminous flux emitted by a light source at both cap-up or cap-down mounting positions is calculated from the integration of the illuminance values E( θ, φ) measured on the goniometric spherical surface. The internal calibration of the system is performed by means of two calibrated light sources with known luminous flux values. The constructed system is also capable of measuring the luminous intensity distribution values I( θ, φ) of compact light sources. The uncertainty analyses of the luminous flux measurements as well as the internal calibration of the instrument are also presented herein.

This contribution presents an application of frequency-domain optical tomography to ophthalmology. Essential theoretical foundations of time-domain and frequency-domain optical tomography are presented. Images of sections through the anterior chamber, the corneo-scleral angle and fundus of the eye are reconstructed from the spectral fringes. The morphological information gained by tomograms is important for diagnosing and planning of a treatment of glaucoma.

The article presents the concept solution of two main issues of visible light communication systems, i.e. the lack of a cost-effective feedback channel and the handling of high throughput. The concept is based on merging of the multiple input multiple output approach, well-known from radio transmission domain, with using of LEDs in a double role, i.e. both as emitters and detectors of light. The feasibility of the proposal was confirmed by the results of the research, carried out for two-channel system of this type.
