Summary The article brings forward basic issues related to splicing in plant and animal cells. The results taken up from experiments conducted on generative cells line of animals (oocytes) and plants (meiocytes, microspores and pollen grains) reveal many universal aspects of splicing system organization. Excepting close similarities of biochemical nature, a common feature of both plant and animal generative cells is occurrence of nuclear structures rich in elements of splicing system (e.g. UsnRNP) termed Cajal bodies.
