Alkohol towarzyszy wszystkim społeczeństwom od zarania dziejów ludzkości. Wiele religii zakazuje spożywania alkoholu lub wskazuje na jego negatywne skutki. W judaizmie i chrześcijaństwie spożywanie alkoholu nie jest zabronione, lecz wskazany jest umiar. W Biblii można znaleźć wiele praktycznych porad dotyczących alkoholu. Alkohol w Islamie jest zakazany. Buddyści zazwyczaj unikają spożywania alkoholu.

Alcohol accompanies every one society from the beginning of humanity. A good many religions forbid consumption of alcohol or see it as sinful or negative. In Judaism and Christianity, consumption of alcohol isn't explicitly forbidden, but its moderate use is recommended. In the Bible, one may find many useful and practical advices about the alcohol. Alcohol is prohibited in Islam. Buddhists typically avoid alcohol consumption.
