The area of the Załęcze Nature Park was mostly connected with the city of Wieluń. Out of the total number of about 50 settlement units 7 date back to the Middle Ages. Two of them - Kamion and Toporów - obtained civic rights in the mid 15th century. They, however, lost their civic rights in the mid 17th century at the time of a general economic decline of the entire country. Other settlements deteriorated economically at that time as well. Some improvement was recorded as from the end of the 18th century when new settlements began to be founded with a part of them having industrial character (mills, forges, paper-mills). None the less, most of them did not gain any bigger significance and several disappeared or were deserted. The number of houses and in habitants in particular villages is given in three time cross - sections in Table I. From the events on the national scale, the Second World War left its marks here (for summary see page 128).
