In Przerębiec Peatbog, in Szczerców Valley (Piotrków province) there were indentifled 202 taxa from Mesotaenlaceae familie and Desmldlales order. Samplex taken in 1979 and 1980 were compared. There were discovered 86 common taxa, 54 taxa met in 1979 and not found in 1980. There were not noticed any rare taxa or those not found on Poland's territory.

In July 1982 desmids cells enclosed in mucilaginous sheaths were recorded during drought in the Bagno Przerębiec transitional peatbog. They were the specimens of Cosmarium contraetum Kirch., Cosmoastrum punctulatum (Breb.) Pal.-Mordv. var. kjellmanii (Wille) Pal.-Mordv., Desmidium cylindricum Grev., Desmidium swartzii (Ag.) Ag. ex Ralfs and Raphidiastrum avicola (Breb.) Pal.-Mordv. Besides, in certain cells a change in the colour of chloroform from dark green to olive or yellow-green and numerous oleaginous granules were observed. It may be presumed that the cells of the above mentioned algae are capable of surviving drought due to their ability to produce mucilaginous sheaths and areolas, which protect them from drying.

The work includes some remarks about 318 taxons of the algae from Mesotaeniaceae family and the Desmidiales order indicated in samples collected in the period 1979-1982 on the transition peat bog „Bagno Przerębiec”. The observations were then compared with the data offered by the latest world literature on the subject.

In 1984-1995 the desmid flora was analysed in the Lubiec peat-bog. Of 206 taxa recorded as many as 43.2% were accessory and accidental species, which testifies to a high variability of this desmid community. The Thumark Q green algae factor was applied for defining the peat-bog’s trophic status, which decidedly determines the species composition and abundance of desmids.

The article presents findings of the further studies on algae from the Mesotaeniaceae family and the Desmidiales order. It contains important information on the area of studies, which is affected negatively by the Bełchatów Industrial Region; on methods of work and taxanomic changes within the framework of investigated algae groups. The performed quantitative analysis of algae from the Mesotaeniaceae family and the Demidiales order revealed that the investigated algae are not very numerous and occur individually.

In samples a post-peat excavation pit of ther Zbyszek peat bog (Central Poland) a mass presence and development of autospores Eremosphaera viridis De Bary 1858 were observed. This species is rarely reported in Poland, due to its identification difficulties.

The paper accounts of qualitative and quantitative studies on algae of the lamily Desmidiaceae in the years 1978—1979 in the eastern part of the Przerębiec Bog located in the Szczerców Basin. In general, 101 species, 38 varieties and 11 forms were found on the investigated a rea (Arthrodesmus, Closterium, Cosmarium, Cylindiocystis, Desmidium, Euastrum, Ganatozygon, Bamhusina, Hyalotheca, Mesotaenium, Micrasterias, Netrium, Penium, Pleurotaenium, Spondylosium, Staurastrum, Staurodesmus, Sphaerozosma, Xanthidium, Tetmemorus, and Triploceros). The most broadly represented taxons were: Closterium (26), Cosmarium (21), Euastrum (23), Micrasterias (13), and Staurastrum (28). Quantitative peak of occurrence took part in September. On stand V, the presence of Micrasterias truncata var. tridentata, not reported hcrtherto from the area of Poland, was found.

Praca niniejsza dotyczy badań jakościowych i ilościowych prowadzonych nad glonami z rodziny Desmidiaceae w latach 1978—1979 we wschodniej części torfowiska Bagno Przerębiec, leżącego na terenie Kotliny Szczercowskiej. Ogółem na badanym terenie stwierdzono występowanie 101 gatunków, 38 odmian i 11 form należących do 21 rodzajów (Arthrodesmus, Closterium, Cosmarium, CyJindrocystis, Desmidium, Euastrum, Gonatozygon, Bambusirta, Hyaiotheca, Mesotaenium, Micrasterias, Netrium, Penium, Pleurotaenium, Spondylosium, Staurastrum, Staurodesmus, Sphaerozosma, Xanthidium, Tetmemorus, Triploceros). Najliczniej reprezentowane były taksony: z rodzaju Closterium (26), Cosmarium (21), Euastrum (23), Micrasterias (13), Staurastrum (28), Szczyt ilościowy występował we wrześniu. W stanowisku V stwierdzono występowanie nie notowanej dotychczas z terenu Polski odmiany Micrasterias truncata var. tridentata.

In samples taken fron the Magdalenow peat bog (Piotrków voivodeship) 248 taxa of diatoms were identified. Asterionella fibula (Bréb.) Bust, is a new species for the flora of Poland. Pinnularia polyonca (Bréb.) 0. Müll, is also an interesting and rare species.

W próbach pobranych z torfowiska w Magdalenowie (woj. piotrkowskie) zidentyfikowano 248 taksonów okrzemek (tab. 3). Nowym gatunkiem dla flory Polski jest Asterionella fibula (Bréb.) Hust. (rys. 2). Interesującym i rzadkim gatunkiem jest Pinnularia polyonca (Bréb.) O. Müll. (rys. 3).

Phytoplankton was investigated in two localities in the Warta River located upstream and downstream of the Jeziorsko Dam Reservoir. Spring and summer peaks of algal development, dominated by diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) (66.7 to 81.0% of total phytoplankton abundance), were recorded. Green algae (Chlorophyta) constituted 7.7 to 38.4% while blue-green algae (Cyanophyia) from 1.3 to 13.3% of total phytoplankton abundance. The percentages of other algal groups were low. Correlations between the abundance of phytoplankton and temperature, concentration of nitrate nigrogen and phosphorus in water were determined. The occurrence of taxons abundantly inhabiting either both localities or individually associated with only one of them was recorded.

In 1988-1990 phytoplankton was investigated in the Sulejów Reservoir. Two developmental peaks were recorded: a spring and an autumn ones; each of them was dominated by diatoms, which constituted 80.0 to 97.5% of total phytoplankton abundance. In all months Siephanodiscus hantzschii Grun. was the dominant species. The subdominants were phytoflagellates, whose intensive development was observed in the period of a decrease in diatom abundance and a decline in abundance in the period of zooplankton domination. Zooplankton was dominated by Daphnia cucullata and Bosmina coregoni.
