Mimo niepokojących doniesień naukowych na temat szkodliwych skutków nadmiernej i niekontrolowanej emisji światła sztucznego, problem pozostaje wciąż mało znany, zwłaszcza w Polsce. Główna trudność w walce z zanieczyszczeniem światłem wynika z głęboko zakorzenionej w psychice ludzkiej percepcji światła, jako dobrodziejstwa cywilizacji. Takie myślenie prowadzi do braku zrozumienia dla działań podejmowanych przez naukowców w celu informowania społeczeństwa o tym w jaki sposób minimalizować nadmierną emisję światła sztucznego. Dlatego konieczne jest podjęcie wysiłków zmierzających ku zwiększeniu świadomości społecznej na temat zagrożeń wynikających z niewłaściwego gospodarowania światłem. W tym celu podjęto się m.in. zorganizowania dwóch krajowych konferencji w pełni poświęconych tematyce zanieczyszczenia światłem, których krótki opis zawarty został w niniejszym artykule.

Despite the alarming scientific reports about the harmful consequences of excessive and uncontrolled emission of artificial light, the problem remains still little known, especially in Poland. A major difficulty in the fight against light pollution is deeply rooted in the human psyche perception of light as the benefits of civilization, while the darkness is perceived as negative. Such a thinking leads to the lack of understanding of the activities undertaken by scientists in order to educate the public on how to minimize the excessive emission of artificial light. Therefore, it is necessary to undertake the efforts increasing public awareness about the risks related with the mismanagement of light. For this purpose, inter alia, two national conferences devoted to the light pollution were organized till now, and are briefly described in the present article .
