The results of thus far carried out studies concerning the possibility of existence of life on present-day and ancient Mars are reviewed, focusing on the data collected by the Viking (1976) and the current Mars exploration rovers (Mer) missions. the importance of the newly collected evidence for the abundance of water in early history of Mars and for its major resources today, is discussed. the significance of Martian meteorites, as clues for searching signs of past life on Mars and for planning future Martian astropaleobiological investigations, is explored.
