Purpose. The study is aimed at showing the state of educational needs of physical education (PE) teachers in the light of the new educational program as well as presenting their opinions about the implementation of some elements of the up-to-date physical education didactics (on the example of teachers in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship). Basic procedures. The survey was conducted in March 2009 among 118 people (including 63 men and 55 women) - PE teachers of various working experience (1 to 36 years of work experience), from randomly chosen primary schools (PS) and secondary schools called gymnasium (G) in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. Main findings. The analysed views of PE teachers of primary schools and gymnasia of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship allow us to state that the teachers notice a need to use basic elements of the up-to-date physical education didactics. They expect concrete materials on the educational program of physical education for 2009. The highest percentage of PE teachers (up to ca. 80%) would like to make use of information on proposals for up-to-date forms of exercises, health-giving training and lifelong sporting activities. Over 70% of them feel the need for materials on pupils' activation and individualisation in PE classes and descriptions of how to use activating methods (ca. 68%). A high percentage, amounting up to 62%, think that these materials should concern methods in health education, and 58.5% (including 66.7% of PS and 50.8% of SS) want to learn about proposals for activities which develop pupils' health. Conclusions. Physical education teachers employed at elementary schools and gymnasia in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, regardless of sex and work experience, support the educational program of physical education. Regarding the usage of various diagnostic tools, it was found out that there are statistically significant differences between elementary school teachers and gymnasia ones. Physical education teachers, regardless of school type, sex and work experience, emphasize the need for training in the didactics of their subject and in health education.
As a result of the legal regulations in the period after the 1989-1990 transition, teachers working in public education, in our case physical education teachers, were engaged in several activities which were not directly related to the competence of in-school educational work. Consequently, there has been a shift in their scope of activities. The author of this paper is interested in the experience of physical education teachers during the period. The objective of the paper is to reveal what effects such a comprehensive and permanent change had on the teaching of physical education in schools, and on the life of physical education teachers. In order to investigate the subject of research the analysis of legislative documents, in-depth interviews and the survey method were applied. The results show that in the period after the 1989-1990 transition, the work of teachers was not only hindered by the structural changes in accordance with educational legislation and the permanent amendment of documents, but the lack of consistency in pedagogical work as well. For the teachers taking part in the preparation of curricula, the extension of their activities resulted in a double workload. The decision that marks were replaced with textual evaluation in grade 1 of primary schools was not received positively on the part of physical education teachers. Based on the results it can be concluded that the efficient work of physical education teachers would be greatly assisted by more predictable legislation, which would ensure the possibility of planning in advance. The global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in restrictions in most countries. One of them was to replace traditional education in schools with online learning. Such a change could provoke a build-up of negative feelings due to insecurity and loneliness. In addition, reducing daily physical activity and closing sports venues can have a detrimental effect on health. The article presents the results of the study of the impact of distance learning on the daily physical activity and condition of physical education teachers in Poland, as well as the subjective perception of physical and mental health in this professional group. Google forms were used to collect the data. The research tool was a questionnaire. The analysis showed that distance learning had a significant negative impact on the physical and mental health of the study group. The impact of distance learning on physical and mental health is gender independent. Teachers more often negatively assessed their physical and mental health compared to the studies in previous years. Daily physical activity of the subjects decreased, and most of them increased their body weight. Less than 3% of the surveyed teachers during the blockade felt happy and full of life.
Physical Education teachers have a special role in the community but sometimes their fellow citizens may not be conscious of it. This paper is based on research which was conducted in order to study P.E. teachers' opinions about the relationship between social capital and their employment in the different sectors. Another objective of this article is to find out how P.E. teachers perceive themselves in relation to other occupations and whether they are satisfied with their position in the Cypriot labour market. The methods applied for this research were documentary analysis and survey method, but it is essential to remark that this paper is based on a larger investigation. Two sub-samples were created in order to compare their opinions towards the three objectives of this study. Results indicate that according to P.E. teachers; medical doctors have the highest prestige in Cyprus. They also believe that social capital has a great influence on their employment at the Cypriot Sport Organization but it is important to note that the majority of them are satisfied with their position in the labour market. This paper provides some evidence about the opinions and feelings of Cypriot P.E. teachers.
This work focuses on the reasons why physical education (PE) teachers leave their profession. The study included 80 individuals who decided to leave a teaching profession in 2013. A diagnostic poll method with the use of the QWL (Quality of Work Life) index was employed in the study. It was observed that there are usually a number of reasons why they give up their job, the most important being financial reasons. Their decision is influenced by the accumulation of professional and personal problems as well as their inability to solve them. The findings showed that teachers‘ departure from the profession is generally associated with the issue of burnout; however, financial reasons are most frequently ones that directly affect this decision.
