The paper presents the results of research on the occurrence, severity and persistence of the dry eye syndrome in patients after laser vision correction. The patients were treated with preservative-free lubricating eye drops, with a specific percentage of sodium hyaluronate. The research was carried out on a group of 70 patients who underwent laser vision correction.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących wystąpienia, nasilenia i długości trwania zespołu suchego oka po wykonaniu laserowej korekcji wzroku i zastosowaniu kropli nawilżających bez konserwantów o określonym stężeniu procentowym hialuronianu sodu. Badania przeprowadzono na grupie 70 osób, u których wykonano zabieg laserowej korekcji wzroku.

The role of corneal biomechanical properties in patients referred to laser vision correction (LVC) is currently being raised. Understanding of corneal biomechanics may support the proper selection of refractive surgery candidates, improve the refractive outcomes and safety of refractive procedures. The Ocular Response Analyzer (ORA) and Corvis ST are commonly used devices to assess corneal biomechanical parameters in LVC. The vertical corneal incisions have a greater impact on corneal biomechanics weakening than horizontal incisions. Maintaining the high biomechanical strength of the cornea following LVC can decrease the potential risk of postoperative ectasia.

ReLEx® SMILE is a relatively new flapless laser vision correction procedure carried out exclusively by femtosecond laser which earned confidence among both physicians and patients. The procedure constitutes an alternative to LASIK, which was considered so far the golden standard in myopia and myopic astigmatism corrections. The present paper discusses the advantages of the ReLEx® SMILE in comparison with other types of laser vision correction, including the patients quality of life after ReLEx® SMILE.

Laser vision correction became a popular method of refractive error treatment. The laser vision correction techniques influence the corneal biomechanical properties including corneal hysteresis and corneal resistance factor. The ocular response analyzer and Corvis ST devices are used in clinical practice to measure the corneal biomechanics. Reasonable laser treatment planning, taking into account the impact on corneal biomechanics, may potentially improve the safety of the refractive procedures. Thicker caps in refractive lenticule extraction and thinner flaps in flap-related procedures promote better corneal biomechanics preservation. The myopic refractive treatment appears to have a greater effect on corneal biomechanics weakening than hyperopic correction.

Celem pracy jest ustalenie przyczyn dyskwalifikacji z operacji laserowej korekcji wzroku oraz zestawienie danych dotyczących najczęstszych powodów niezakwalifikowania do zabiegu. Należy dokładnie rozważyć, u jakich pacjentów można go wykonać. Dla osób niezakwalifikowanych do zabiegu istnieje wiele alternatywnych metod korekcji wad wzroku.

The aim of the article is to establish the reasons for disqualification from laser vision correction surgery and to compile data on the most common reasons for not qualifying for the procedure. The specific patients in which the procedure can be performed should be carefully considered. For people who are not qualified for surgery, there are many alternative methods of correcting vision defects.

Laser vision correction (LCV) is a common corneal surgery for the treatment of refractive errors. The rapid development of LVC techniques make this procedures safe and efficient. Despite the high safety profile of corneal refractive surgery, there are however some clinical conditions that constitute absolute or relative contraindication for this procedures. The aim of the paper was to overview and summarise the currently known systemic contraindications for LVC.
