Introduction. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of the undergraduate studies in physical education at the Academy of Physical Education and Sport (APE&S) in Gdańsk and Faculty of Physical Education and Sport (FPE&S) in Biała Podlaska of the Warsaw University of Physical Education (UPE). Material and methods. The study included a total of 247 last semester students of full-time education course. The paper uses a method of diagnostic survey with auditorium questionnaire technique. Referring to the provisions of the Bologna Declaration on the implementation of two-degree studies and based on students' opinions, research was conducted in form of comparative studies. Evaluation included circumstances of the choice of study, conditions of study, expectations of respondents to the education and degree of their implementation. Results. Subjects taking physical education studies are mainly motivated by interests. They hoped to gain knowledge and skills for further education and professional competence. They highly appreciated the degree of fulfilment of expectations in this regard. Conclusions. There was a large convergence of views presented by students of both universities on the education process and its outcomes.

The expectations and needs of patients concerning the treatment of multiple sclerosis focus on the improvement of chances for the pursuit of their life goals. The contemporary patient has an increasing amount of information on the indications for the use of different medicines. Therefore, the conclusions derived from the BENEFIT study summarised results, especially those concerning the last follow-up – after 11 years, have generated knowledge of vital importance to the patients. It was demonstrated that the patients who started their therapy earlier had a longer time to conversion to multiple sclerosis – by 2.7 years compared to the group with postponed treatment. The annualised relapse rate was significantly lower and the time to the next relapse was significantly longer in patients who received treatment early. Only 13.3% of individuals left employment immediately after they were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and only 12.2% went on disability pension. The results of the BENEFIT 11 study, especially those relating to professional activity, support the idea of starting the treatment as early as possible and are important particularly to those patients for whom work is a value in itself. The knowledge derived from the BENEFIT 11 study that early interferon beta treatment provides a chance for maintaining professional activity, delays the conversion from the relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis to the secondary progressive form of the disease and minimises the progression of disability, significantly affects the patient’s willingness to comply with the recommendations and treatment regimens, i.e. promotes patient adherence. This knowledge should also be the basis of communication with those individuals who will be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and who will be asking questions about their future.

Wykazano, że pacjenci, którzy wcześniej rozpoczęli terapię, wykazywali dłuższy czas konwersji do stwardnienia rozsianego – o 2,7 roku w porównaniu z grupą z odroczonym leczeniem.

Aim: Economic development, connected with the concept of a society engaged in lifelong learning, demands that education produce optimal professional competences. The aim of this study was to determine the motives for the choice of physical education studies, and ascertain expectations concerning professional competences, as well as self-evaluation of competences acquired, in current and former athletes and non-athletes. Methods. 226 people were examined, all studying physical education at the Faculty of Physical Culture in Gorzow Wielkopolski, a branch of the University School of Physical Education in Poznan. Purposive sampling was used (Radzińska, Nowak, L., Nowak, M., 2013). The study included current (22.6%) and former athletes (31.8%) as well as non-athletes (45.6%). A diagnostic survey was employed, with the use of the techniques of auditorium questionnaire, interview and document analysis. In order to draw statistical conclusions, the trait frequency and the independence χ2 test were used. Results. Former athletes more often reported having been motivated to choose the studies by their interest in employment with institutions of physical culture while non-athletes by their wish to obtain jobs in schools (p ≤ 0.05). Expectations of competence in physical education methodology were indicated by all respondents, slightly more often by former athletes and non-athletes (p ≤ 0.05). For current athletes, competence in physical fitness was important. Psycho-pedagogical competence in motivating schoolchildren to work was expected by most students (84.5%), slightly more often by former athletes and non-athletes (p ≤ 0.05). Respondents rated their preparation for employment with regard to foreign languages and preparation for scientific work as average and fair, and their selfeducation ability and computer skills as good.
