The aim of the study was to evaluate of the results of neurolysis in perinatal brachial plexus lesions treatment.Material and methods. Clinical material comprised 31 children, both sex, in age between 3 and 29 months, who had neurolysis of brachial plexus in period from 1998 to 2005. Treatment results have been evaluated in group of 26 children by commonly accepted scales. The shortest postoperative observation period lasted 4 years.Results. Good and very good function of shoulder after surgical treatment has been noted in 14 cases, good function of elbow has been noted in 21 cases. Advantageous position of forearm has been observed in 19 cases. Useful function of wrist in group of upper-middle and total lesions has been found in 18 examined children. Useful motor and sensory hand function has been observed in 7 from 11 examined children with total lesions.Conclusions. Significant compression of brachial plexus neural elements is an indication for their release (neurolysis) also in lesions which have been classified as a I and II degree in Sunderland's scale. In brachial plexus lesions with preserved macroscopic continuity of neural elements (after exclusion of avulsion lesions), intrafascicular fibrosis may be one of reasons of poor neural function improvement.

Searching for new refrigerants is one of the most significant scientific problems in refrigeration. There are ecological refrigerants commonly known: H2O and CO2. H2O and CO2 known as natural refrigerants, but they have problems:a high freezing point of H2O and a low triple point of CO2. These problems can be solved by the application of a hybrid sorption-compression refrigeration cycle. The cycle combines the application possibility of H2O in the high temperature sorption stage and the low temperature application of CO2 in the compression stage. This solution gives significant energy savings in comparison with the two-stage compressor cycle and with the one-stage transcritical CO2 cycle. Besides, the sorption cycle may be powered by low temperature waste heat or renewable heat. This is an original idea of the authors. In the paper an analysis of the possible extension of this solution for high capacity industrial refrigeration is presented. The estimated energy savings as well as TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact) index for ecological gains are calculated.

The article deals with the concept and classification of phraseological units, transformations application while phraseological units creating, functions of phraseological units in the fiction text, role of author’s phraseology. The purpose of the article is to analyze the use and creation of phraseological units in Mark Twain’s novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, their structure; substantiate the transformations of phraseological units that were used in the novel, their role in the work. Having analyzed the phraseologisms of the novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, the authors studied about 400 phraseological fusions, phraseological unities, phraseological combinations, including authorial ones, phrasal verbs, and also phraseological units that are formed by means of transformations: compression or decompression, replacement and others. The authors state that in most cases phraseological units are used in the evaluative and emotional-expressive functions, function of creating humour and satire, functions of portrait characterization and linguistic characteristics of the character, function of the plot basis and less often synonymous amplification or injection of features. It must be noted that in order to have a more complete and in-depth picture of phraseological units of the novel application and functioning it is necessary to carry out the comparative analysis of different translations of the novel into Ukrainian and study the ways phraseological units rendering into Ukrainian.

Lopinavir (LPV) and ritonavir (RTV) are anti-viral drugs used in combination and commonly prepared through hot-melt extrusion techniques. Mechanical processes are greatly involved, including blending and milling. Therefore, the crystal behaviour of LPV and RTV under the mechanical process is an interesting study. Here, the LPV, RTV, and their mixtures were processed by two different treatments: grinding and compression processes. The solid-state properties of the drugs were evaluated by powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Single-crystal XRD analysis was also carried out to confirm the packing structure in the crystal lattice. It was observed that LPV was very sensitive to the grinding process, where it tends to form an amorphous solid in both the pure and mixture forms. On the other hand, RTV has a very stable crystalline structure and was able to retain its crystallinity even under grinding. Both LPV and RTV were observed to be quite stable under compression, where both retained their crystalline form with only slight changes in their d-spacing values. This study highlighted the molecular origin of LPV and RTV crystal behaviour after grinding and compression processes.

The purpose of the study was to establish a dynamics model and a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model to analyze loading characteristics of femoral neck during walking, squat, single-leg standing, and forward and lateral lunges. One male volunteer performed three trials of the five movements. The 3D kinematic data were captured and imported into the LifeMOD to establish a musculoskeletal dynamics model to obtain joint reaction and muscle forces of iliacus, gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, psoas major and adductor magnus. The loading data LfeMOD were imported and transformed into a hip finite-element model. The results of the finite element femur model showed that stress was localized along the compression arc and the tension arc. In addition, the trabecular bone and tension lines of the Ward's triangle also demonstrated high stress. The compact bone received the greatest peak stress in the forward lunge and the least stress in the squat. However, the spongy bone in the femoral neck region had the greatest stress during the walk and the least stress in the squat. The results from this study indicate that the forward lunge may be an effective method to prevent femoral neck fractures. Walking is another effective and simple method that may improve bone mass of the Ward's triangle and prevent osteoporosis and femoral neck fracture.
