Observation of reality shows that the attitude of today's society towards the elderly is very heterogenous and ambivalent. Both positive and negative attitudes can be observed. What is more, one can talk about attitudes of indifference and a certain social distance. The main goal of the research is to show how attitudes towards the elderly are shaped in our society and whether demographic variables such as gender, age, marital status, place of residence, or level of education differentiate these attitudes. Can we talk about the formation of certain patterns among the younger generation, which create the image of older people in adults? The sample consisted of 1,025 people. The Scale of Attitudes to- wards Seniors (SPWS) by Łukasiewicz and Kowalski was administered. The entire tool consisted of 60 items divided into three sca les: Respect and Support, Rejection and Misunderstanding, and Social Distance. In order to examine the attitudes of the respondents to their grandparents and their role in family life, seven self-authored statements were attached to the questionnaire. The analysis of the obtained results shows no significant differences between positive and negative attitudes towards seniors. All attitudes are at a moderate level. The factors differentiating the intensity of attitudes were: gender, marital status, place of residence, and education level. The indicator of the development of positive attitudes towards seniors was the time spent with grandparents in the past and positive opinions about grandparents provided by par- ents. Earlier intergenerational relations are of no significant importance when it came to the intensification of negative attitudes. The research confirmed the existence of heterogeneous attitudes towards seniors. However, there is no clear advantage of positive attitudes over the negative. The conclusions from the research point to the role of broadly understood education in shaping attitudes towards the elderly. In the age of an ageing society, activities that show the significance of older people for society, and what value they are for all of us, become important. The family and multi- generational relationships play a significant role here.

Introduction. Differences and inequalities connected with the place where a person lives are a subject of interest to social sciences, sociology in particular. Empirical findings indicate that residents of urban and rural areas differ significantly in terms of such variables as physical development, health condition, life expectancy, affluence, education level, access to power, cultural capital and so on. It is interesting to check whether the above regularity also applies to young people's attitudes towards physical culture. The aim of this study was to examine attitudes which middle school pupils (ages between 13 and 16) in Poland's urban and rural areas held to physical culture. Material and methods. The study involved a survey conducted between 10th November 2011 and 10th March 2012 on a purposive sample of 336 children. They were pupils aged 13-16 in two middle schools in Świętokrzyskie province: the Jan Karski no. 4 Middle School in the city of Kielce and the John Paul II Middle School in the village of Masłów, Kielce county. The diagnostic poll method was used in the study and an original, categorised poll was the research tool. The surveying technique was an auditorium questionnaire. Results. After analysis, empirical data obtained from the survey shows that the place of residence causes slights differences in middle school pupils' attitudes towards physical culture. The data allows for the conclusion that pupils from urban areas possess a little better knowledge of physical culture than their peers from rural areas. Pupils from villages have, in turn, a slightly more positive emotional approach to physical culture than pupils in cities. Urban middle school pupils manifest more positive behaviours within physical culture than rural pupils. The place of residence does not cause such striking differences in attitudes to physical culture as it does in other social and cultural variables, such as affluence, education level, access to power, health condition, fitness, participation in culture and so on.

INTRODUCTION: The contemporary health care system is increasingly becoming more responsive to the needs of patients and their families. Patients and family members have priority in decision-making. The family witnessed resuscitation refers to offering the option to a family member to remain present at their loved ones during the resuscitation. Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of educational sessions on the knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of nurses about family-resuscitation witnessed. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The study was carried out over six months. In total, 31 participants were recruited in the study using a convenient sampling technique. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire. Sessions were conducted to educate nurses on resuscitation witnessed by the family. RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 29.77 years. More than half (51.6%) of the participants were male. There was a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention knowledge (P=0.000), attitude (P=0.000), and experience (P = 0.000). There was also a positive association of knowledge with educational level (P=0.02), experience (P=0.001), and job position (P=0.001). Similarly, the attitude of the participants was also associated with experience (P=0.000) and education status (P=0.002). Additionally, the experience of the participants was also associated with education status (P=0.01) and Job Position (P=0.000). CONCLUSIONS: Educational interventions have a significant effect on the knowledge, attitude and experiences of nurses toward family witness resuscitation.

Introduction: One of the main goals of physical education is forming students’ proper attitudes towards physical exercises and culture. The study aimed to determine primary school students’ attitudes towards physical culture, physical education lessons and physical activity. Material and methods: The tests were conducted at the turn of May and June 2020 among primary school students from Kraków and Tarnów. They comprised 336 students, including 141 girls. Research employed the Questionnaire for testing attitudes of the youth towards physical culture by S. Strzyżewski (Pol. Kwestionariusz do badania postaw młodzieży wobec kultury fizycznej). Results: The test results demonstrated students’ positive attitudes towards physical culture. For most of the examined (76.2%) physical activity means pleasure. More than a half of the students (57.7%) are satisfied with physical education classes. Boys enjoyed physical exercises more frequently than girls. Conclusions: Students present a positive attitude towards physical culture, physical education lessons and physical activity. The level of attitudes is higher among boys than girls. It would be advisable to make physical education lessons more attractive to girls in order to form positive attitudes.

Background: The aim of the research was to determine an influence of an increased number of outdoor lessons of Physical Education on aerobic fitness and to evaluate students’ attitude towards endurance efforts. Material/Methods: In the presented research project a group of students participated in a school program of Physical Education on the basis of a higher number of lessons realized in the natural environment in the vicinity of school. The subjects were a group of 220 students from 4 schools of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, who were subjected to initial and final measurements during two school years. The most important assumption of the research stated better effects of outdoor classes of Physical Education in comparison with indoor classes and the shortage of experimental factor influence on the correlation change between objective and subjective indices of fitness and attitudes related to it. Results: In the experimental group the most distinct differences between initial and final tests concerned the endurance measurement, similarly to the control group in which, however, the improvement in the final test was less noticeable. The correlation among three analyzed variables was significant for both research groups. The comparison of results of students from the experimental and the control groups demonstrates a positive influence of outdoor lessons on the level of endurance and, to a lower degree, on the feeling of effort fatigue and mood. Conclusions: The research was conducted with a use of three research tools: the mood scale, Cooper’s test and the subjective fatigue feeling with finished effort scale that allow a positive verification of the presented hypothesis, which should be an encouragement for wider practicing of innovative activities to bring closer the assumed aims of Physical Education to the aims actually achieved.

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to empirically analyze the sports background, personality dimensions, attitudes, and social competencies of adult head coaches and young assistant coaches involved in the German Einfach Fußball (Just Soccer) program, which promotes the participation of pupils with intellectual disabilities in soccer/sports and society. Methods. The study recruited 28 head coaches and 29 assistant coaches who completed a questionnaire battery of standardized instruments (NEO Five-Factor Inventory, Interpersonal Reactivity Index, Social Self-Efficacy) as well as self-developed instruments. Analysis of the data involved descriptive and inferential statistical procedures. A descriptive comparison of the assistant coaches with a normative sample of males aged 16-20 years was performed. Results. The head coaches were found with little soccer/sports experience with persons with disabilities prior to participation in the Just Soccer program. However, the majority were familiar with these persons through personal/vocational contacts. Overall, the head coaches were differentiated by formal coaching levels and playing backgrounds, with very few holding any additional formal qualifications in special education. The assistant coaches presented below average scores in the analyzed five personality dimensions when compared with the normative sample. Their attitudes and social competencies did not change during their 8-month involvement in Just Soccer. Conclusions. The findings highlight the important role of the coaching staff in the success of the Just Soccer program. Coaches involved in such activities should be familiarized with needs of people with disabilities, be stress-resistant, and possess a balanced set of personality traits. In addition, the results suggest that such individuals should be coaches/players from conventional soccer clubs instead of special school physical education teachers.

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF STUDY The core of a well-organised healthcare system is respecting patients' rights by healthcare professionals. The study aimed to analyse the knowledge of and attitudes towards patients' rights among healthcare professionals. MATERIALS AND METHODS 100 physicians and 100 nurses were enrolled in the study. Specialist physicians constituted 40% of the total, nurses with a secondary school degree represented 30% of all the participants, and nurses with a Bachelor's degree accounted for 25% of the total. The mean age was 40 years old (min. 24, max. 64, SD: 9.390), and the mean length of service of the respondents was 15 years (min. 1, max. 44, SD: 10.569, median: 13). A diagnostic survey was conducted between November 2012 and January 2013 by means of a voluntary and anonymous questionnaire developed by the authors, consisting of 46 questions. Quantitative and qualitative analysis was performed with Statsoft STATISTICA 10.0, as well as the Mann-Whitney U test, p < 0.05. RESULTS As many as 34% of the physicians and nurses assessed their knowledge of patients' rights as good (p < 0.011). 19% of the physicians and 7% of the nurses assessed their knowledge as very good. 85% of the study partici-pants knew the right to information, right to access medical records, and right to health services (p = NS). 78% of the respondents were familiar with the Act on Patients' Rights and Ombudsman for Patients' Rights. 64% of the total confirmed that they had witnessed the infringement of patients' rights at their workplace. CONCLUSIONS 1. The knowledge of the study participants concerning patients' rights was insufficient. Therefore, a system of training for medical personnel in this field needs to be developed and introduced. 2. Healthcare professionals play a minor role in providing patients with information on their rights. Hence, medical personnel should have an opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and competence in this area. 3. Due to the fact that a majority of the respondents witnessed the infringement of patients' rights, the observance of patients' rights by healthcare professionals needs to be monitored and those who infringe patients' rights should be held professionally responsible.

WSTĘP I CEL PRACY Respektowanie praw pacjenta przez personel medyczny jest podstawą prawidłowo funkcjonującej służby zdrowia. Celem pracy była analiza wiedzy i postaw personelu medycznego wobec praw przysługujących pacjentom. MATERIAŁ I METODY W badaniu uczestniczyło 100 lekarzy (40% specjalistów) i 100 pielęgniarek (30% z wykształceniem średnim, 25% z licencjackim). Średnia wieku: 40 lat (min. 24, maks. 64, SD: 9), średni staż pracy: 15 lat (min. 1, max. 44, SD: 10; mediana: 13).

Recent epidemiologic data have demonstrated a significant increase in eating disorder morbidity among adolescent girls. The goal of the current research was to evaluate attitudes and behaviour directly relevant to eating disorders. Participants were a sample of 611 second form schoolgirls of junior secondary schools in Lodz. A Polish version of the Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI) was performed. The results of the current study were compared with the findings of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw and with the mean scores of female patients with anorexia nervosa (AN). The difference between the nonclinical sample of female adolescents and female patients with AN was significant in every dimension of EDI. The mean EDI score on the “Drive for Thinness” scale for 17% of the study group was equal to or higher than that for AN patients. The mean EDI scores in the “Drive for Thinness”, “Bulimia” and “Interoceptive Awareness” were not significantly different in the samples from Lodz and Warsaw. The findings of the current research and incidence of AN in adolescent females suggest advisability of regular screening of female adolescents for risk factors in behaviour and attitudes. Furthermore, intervention programs are recommended for exposed adolescent females especially at reversible stages of AN disorder, when self-esteem and sexual identity are formed.

W związku z niepokojącymi danymi dotyczącymi stale rosnącej liczby zachorowań na zaburzenia odżywiania w 2003 roku został wprowadzony program oceny nasilenia zachowań i postaw związanych z zaburzeniami jedzenia wśród adolescentek – uczennic drugich klas szkół gimnazjalnych w Łodzi.

Introduction. Sudden cardiac arrest by definition is the unexpected cessation of heart function. The characteristic features are: no reaction to stimuli, no perceptible pulse and apnea or agonal breathing. Some sources also consider a significant reduction in the work of the heart as SCA. Immediate and appropriate help is essential in dealing with this serious medical problem. Aim. The main aim of the work is to analyse the attitudes of nursing staff towards ineffective resuscitation. Material and methods. The subject of the research is the attitudes of nurses towards ineffective resuscitation due to sudden cardiac arrest. For the purposes of the study, the method of diagnostic survey, proprietary questionnaire, standardized Mini COPE questionnaire and statistical methods were used. Results. The analysis of the collected data showed the attitudes towards ineffective resuscitation. There was no significant correlation between age, work experience, education, gender and the attitude of the respondents. The hypothesis about the most frequent attitude of seeking support in a stressful situation, which is ineffective resuscitation, has also not been confirmed. In the study, the strategy of active coping and acceptance was the dominant. Conclusions. Active coping was the dominant one among all attitudes represented by the nursing staff towards ineffective resuscitation. As research proves that age, education or work experience do not significantly affect the way of coping with the stress resulting from ineffective resuscitation, there is a real need to deepen the issue and create tools to support emotional and instrumental personnel dealing with the problem.

Wstęp.  Nagłe zatrzymanie krążenia to według definicji nieoczekiwane ustanie funkcji serca. Cel. Głównym celem pracy jest analiza postaw personelu pielęgniarskiego wobec nieskutecznej reanimacji. Materiał i metody.

Introduction. In the last decades of our century, in Poland and around the world there has been a lot of interest in the subject of euthanasia. In addition, there is also a problem of persistent therapy, which is present in Poland for quite a short time. For a large part of our society, this is an unknown concept, which came across by accident, society is not fully aware of its meaning. Therefore, making the society aware of persistent therapy problem and its essence is both important and extremely difficult. Nevertheless, topic of death is an inseparable part of our lives and it shouldn’t be missed. Taking up this topic makes it easier for us to come to terms with the passing of loved ones and soothes our emotions that arise in the face of tragedy. Aim. Main goal of this work is attitude analyse of families of suffering and pain patients towards persistent therapy. Material and methods. The subject of the research are the attitudes of families of suffering and pain patients towards persistent therapy. For the purposes of the study, the diagnostic survey method was used. The research tool was the author's questionnaire. Results. There is a dependence between age of subjects and knowledge of persistent therapy concept. That can be said that the topic of persistent therapy is a fairly new topic and perhaps that is why older people have not come across it before. Also, the dependence between level of education and knowledge of persistent therapies has been shown. The largest number of people giving the correct answer is in the group with higher education. Conclusions. The analysis of the collected data gave results that show the attitudes of families towards persistent therapy. All the hypotheses in this work have been confirmed. It follows from the above that the presented attitudes of patients' families towards persistent therapy result from ignorance, lack of awareness and insufficient communication with the staff.

Cel. Głównym celem pracy jest analiza postaw rodzin pacjentów cierpiących i bólowych wobec uporczywej terapii. Materiał i metody. Wnioski. Analiza zebranych danych dała wyniki ukazujące postawy rodzin wobec uporczywej terapii. Wszystkie stawiane hipotezy w niniejszej pracy potwierdziły się i wynika z powyższego, iż przedstawione postawy rodzin pacjentów wobec uporczywej terapii wynikają z niewiedzy, braku świadomości i niedostatecznej komunikacji z personelem.

Introduction: Relationship between physiotherapist and patient has specific form of contact, in which latter lets the former to go through his personal distance, because some medical procedures demand close physical contact. Physical treatment can imply some kind of intimacy, because therapist and patient meet on physical, psychical and social level. It can cause attempts to violate boundary of this relation. The goal of this pilot study was exploration of physiotherapist’s boundaries in physical treatment and specification of the areas within this topic, which should be explored in the future. Material and methods: 80 therapists (39 female, 41 male) completed anonymously a questionnaire (28 questions - open, semi-open, closed). Results: Half of the respondents (56%) haven’t experienced violating boundaries of physical contact by patients, 37% have met this kind of attempts and inform mostly about: touch with sexual connotation, attempts to kiss and aggression. The most of physiotherapists (65%) think the standards of prohibiting intimate contacts between therapists and patients are appropriate, but some (26%) allow exceptions due to circumstances. The majority of respondents (86%) indicate patient’s sex no matter, 14% prefer to work with women. Conclusions: The most of physiotherapists don’t experience violating acceptable borders of physical contact by patients during treatment. Respondents accept mostly standards of prohibiting intimate contacts between therapists and patients, although some allow exceptions due to circumstances. Sex of treated person and connected within sexual boundary doesn’t seem to be a barrier in their work.
