Pharmacotherapy remains the primary therapeutic method for patients with pain accompanying cancer. Principles of pharmacological treatment of chronic pain are based on a three-step analgesic ladder, which includes the use of non opioid analgesics initially, in the absence of their effectiveness following a weak opioid, which is on the third level replaced by a strong opioid. The algorithm of cancer pain treatment is a simple stepwise approach to the effective use of analgesics and effective cancer pain treatment, and should become a standard for every doctor.

Farmakoterapia pozostaje podstawową metodą terapeutyczną u chorych z bólami towarzyszącym chorobie nowotworowej. Zasady leczenia farmakologicznego bólu przewlekłego są oparte na trójstopniowej drabinie analgetycznej, która uwzględnia stosowanie początkowo analgetyków nieopioidowych, a w przypadku ich nieskuteczności dodatkowo słabego opioidu, który na trzecim szczeblu drabiny zastępowany jest silnym opioidem. Algorytm leczenia bólu nowotworowego jest sposobem etapowego podejścia do efektywnego wykorzystania środków przeciwbólowych w celu skutecznego leczenia bólu nowotworowego i powinien stać się standardem dla każdego lekarza
