The efficiency of two biopreparations: Enzymix (enzymatic preparation)and Bioenzykler (microbiological and enzymatic preparation) in the biodegradaton of two types of domestic sewage was examined. The process oforganic impurities decay in sewage was observed after 3, 5 and 7 days of incubation.

The potential chemical impact of a treated sewage discharged from the ?Gdansk-Wschod? Sewage Treatment Plant to the Gulf of Gdansk was studied. A physical and chemical investigation of the sediments sampled in the area of the planned collector outlet as well as results of an earlier research were the basis for the present paper. A spatial distribution of majority of the studied sediment components shows a distinctive zoning that is clearly due to them being supplied by the Vistula River (Wisla River). This is particular for the mercury, lead, zinc and chromium as well as organic carbon and phosphorus. A distribution of the redox potential shows too a distinctive relation to the Vistula River mouth. Starting a sewage discharge through a new collector located between the two river mouths of the Wisla Smiala and the Wisla Przekop can move westwards the presently observed zoning of increased concentrations of some chemicals. However, most probably such changes will be small and they will not cumulate themselves over time.

In this paper, landfill is described as bioreactor. Firstly, the bioprocesses taking part within the landfill together with their mathematical descriptions are presented. Secondly, the investigations on various landfill operational procedures are shown. The method which enables the studies on landfill behaviour is also described. Three basic concepts for a landfill design operation are explained: dry landfill, bioreactor landfill and final storage quality landfill. The advantages of landfill operating as bioreactor are stressed.

This work reports the results on bioconversion of two lignocellulose wastes, i.e. wheat waste and faba bean hulls by fungi T. reesei and A. niger. The efficiency of lignocelluloses biodegradation after culturing the fungi was determined on the basis of the reduction of fibre content in the substrates, increase of protein in the preparations obtained, and the yield of protein biosynthesis. The experiments included the determination of the effect of various technological variables on the process intensification, i.e. method of culturing (shake- or surface culture), type of culture (single strains or mixed culture), raw material pre-treatment (physico-chemical or enzymatic treatment), and additional sources of carbon in the medium, inducing the biosynthesis of cellulases. In selected preparations after culturing the fungi, the changes in the composition of dietary fibre (soluble, SDF and insoluble, IDF) and simple sugars in the IDF fraction were analysed in detail.
