The pharmacogenetic aspects of pain pharmacotherapy

The rapidly progressing field of pharmacogenetics offers insight into the variation in responses observed clinically among patients administered analgesics. Genetic variation leads to interperson variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, processes that have an important impact on the observed efficacy and toxicity of analgesics. As more pharmacogenetic research links specific polymorphism to the pharmacologic effects of analgesics, clinicians will continue to improve their understanding of how to prescribe analgesics more effectively.

Postęp jaki dokonuje się w zakresie farmakogenetyki pozwala na zrozumienie osobniczych różnic w odpowiedzi na podanie leków przeciwbólowych. Różnice farmakogenetyczne i związane z tym zmiany w farmakokinetyce i farmakodynamice leków przeciwbólowych pozwalają dzisiaj wyjaśnić ich wpływ zarówno na skuteczność jak i bezpieczeństwo stosowania tych leków. Znajomość czynników genetycznych pozwala na uzyskanie wiedzy niezbędnej do coraz efektywniejszego stosowania leków przeciwbólowych.
