The genetic differentiation of strains within Paramecium triaurelia was studied by intra- and inter-strain crosses of the Spanish strains from Castile and Andalusia and the standard one (strain 324 from Florida, USA).The clones of both generations F1 obtained by conjugation and F2 by autogamy, in intra- and inter-strain crosses showed a high survival rate.It was found that strains coming from remote regions were not genetically differentiated within P.triaurelia, which confirms the moderate inbreeding type of the breeding system of the studied species.
