Description of Phrynarachne ceylonica (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1884) female from Andaman and Nicobar islands after a long gap of 124 years has been provided through the collections of fresh specimen in and around these islands. The selection of habitat and the range expansion are discussed. The distribution records of the species are mapped.

Neisseria meningitis is a common etiological agent in bacterial meningitis in humans. Common complications associated with meningococcal meningitis include cranial nerve palsies, hydrocephalus, seizures, stroke, cerebritis or brain abscesses. Spinal cord dysfunction is a very rare complication of meningococcal meningitis and its occurrence is limited to case reports only. We report such a case along with a review of available literature and underlying pathogenetic mechanisms. Case report: Our patient diagnosed as a case of meningococcal meningitis developed multiple cranial nerve palsies followed by flaccid paraplegia with bowel bladder involvement during the recovery phase of the disease. Spine MRI showed mild cord edema and diffuse patchy areas of altered intramedullary signal intensity in dorsal cord suggestive of myelitis. The patient was treated with antibiotics and intravenous methyl-prednisolone along with supportive physiotherapy. His neurological deficits showed marked improvement on subsequent follow up.

A female of Borboropactus bituberculatus Simon, 1884 has been reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India for the first time. Diagnostic characters are provided for the species, as well as new photographs or illustrations of the genital organs of the species.

The present study is on the spider fauna of Barasat and Basirhat of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. A total of 23 species belonging to 20 genera and 11 families are sampled during the period August 2016 to July 2017. These include the newly recorded species, Anepsion maritatum (O.P. Cambridge) from the state. The dominant guild is constituted by the Orb web weavers (30.43%). Analysis of their zoogeographical distribution reveals that the fauna apart from being Oriental also includes some Australian (23%), Palaearctic (21.73%) and Ethiopian, Nearctic and Neotropical (each 17.39%) elements. Spiders are mostly prevalent during Postmonsoon (82.60%), followed by Premonsoon (60.86%) and Monsoon (47.82%) which is in conformity with the incidence of the insect species. Two species namely Eriovixia excelsa (Simon) and Leucauge decorata (Blackwall) are recorded throughout the period of survey. All the diversity indices are higher in case of Basirhat as compared to Barasat. An overall negative impact of urbanization on spider diversity, distribution and abundance is evidenced from the present study. Ranking sequence of the most abundant species (six) in descending order are: Leucauge decorata (25.68%) > Eriovixia excelsa (19.13%) > Pholcus phalangioides (11.48%) > Plexippus paykullii (8.74%) > Anepsion maritatum (7.10%) > Cyrtophora cicatrosa (6.56%). Sex ratio (♀ : ♂) is about 12 : 1. Availability of food/season and/or cannibalism may be the factors for female dominated society.

This Project was started at the beginning of a new, 21st century, after realizing the first scientific visit of the second author to India. By the end of the twentieth century, the 2nd author first visited Bombay, to discover the natural beauty and exotics of this sub-continent. That time, there was a scientist as a Polish Consul in Bombay, Dr. Krzysztof Majka, coming from the Koszalin University of Technology (KUT), and he received a visit there of the 2nd author, Prof. Tadeusz Hryniewicz. Over a decade later, the first author of this book decided to join the Surface Electrochemistry Division at the KUT for his PhD studies. In 2006, the authors started to develop a Project concerned with the use of the natural rubber to the new sources of energy. That year, a scientific expedition to the natural rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) plantation in Ranni, Kerala State on the south-west India, was carried out. The aim of this expedition was to receive a natural rubber and bring it back under natural state to Poland in view of performing an electrochemical modification for further studies in view of application//using the modified layouts//systems of conductive natural rubber. This work is to present also natural, sightseeing, tourist, and environmental elements of the beautiful natural geography of West India.
