Cross-correlation methods were applied to examine interaction between the cerebellar cortex and the interaction between Purkinje neurons and neurons of the deep cerebellar nuclei. Patterns of interaction between different cerebellar cortical neurons are described.

The patterns of transgene inheritance in plants and the possible explanations for non-Mendelian transmission are reviewed. The non-Mendelian inheritance of a transgene has been recorded with a frequency between 10% and 50% in transgenic plants produced either by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation or through particle bombardment. Different effects such as deletion, duplication, rearrangement, repeated sequence recombination as well as gene interaction have been observed for transgenic loci. The nature of the recipient genome, nature of the transgene and the interactions between them seem to contribute to the non-Mendelian segregation of transgenes.

Possible interactions between proteins and nucleic acids which might contribute to general effectivity op plant genetic transformation systems are reviwed. Experimental data concerning direct and A tumefaciens - based plant genetic transformation systems are compared with data obtained from research on nucleocytoplasmic exchange machanisms of biopolmers.In thaht context, mechanisms of hnRNA interactions with hnRNP appear to be of great importance. This type of interactions is determined by conservative nucleic acida bindng domains of many cellular proteins e.g. RGG and RBD.These proteins seem to play an important role in the integration of many other cellular processes.

We evaluated the influence of amifostine used alone or in combination with 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine (2-CdA) on the colony growth of normal and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) granulocyte-macrophage progenitor cells (CFU-GM) in semisolid culture in vitro. Amifostine at a concentration of 1 mg/ml was either added directly to the culture medium of normal and CML CFU-GM, or mononuclear cells (MNCs) were first preincubated with amifostine at the same concentration, washed in Iscove's modified Dulbecco minimum essential medium (IDMEM) and then added to the culture medium. Amifostine used alone inhibited the growth of CML CFU-GM colonies to a higher degree than those of normal CFU-GM, but the differences were not statistically significant. Amifostine preincubated with MNCs and used together with the highest concentration of 2-CdA significantly inhibited the colony growth of CML CFU-GM as compared to 2-CdA alone (p<0.05). In contrast, the colony growth inhibition of normal CFU-GM was not significantly lower compared to 2-CdA used alone. Our studies suggest that 2-CdA used together with amifostine is more toxic to leukemic CFU-GM than to their normal counterparts.

Hexaploid triticale has many advantages over both parental species for both grain and forage production in certain environments. Additional information on environmental stability and heritability would be desirable to develop appropriate selection strategies in the production of superior widely-adapted cultivars. The grain yield of 22 diverse genotypes grown at four ecologically-distinct geographical locations [Quincy, FL, USA (approximate geographical coordinates (AGC) = 30oN 84oW, approximate elevation (AE) = 58 m), Plains, GA, USA (AGC = 32oN 84oW, AE = 76 m), Bozeman, MT USA (AGC = 45oN 111oW, AE = 1458 m), and Aberdeen, ID, USA (AGC = 42oN 112oW, AE = 1360 m)] was measured in two years with winter and spring planting dates only at Bozeman and Aberdeen. Test weight (grain weight in a given volume) was determined for two years at Bozeman and Aberdeen at both planting dates and one year at Quincy. Stability analyses indicated that significant (P < 0.01) variation in means, regression coefficients, and deviation mean squares of the genotypes were present for both characters. Realized heritability (h2) estimates were as follows: grain yield ranged from ?0.02 to 0.80 with a mean of 0.57; test weight ranged from 0.63 to 1.05 with a mean of 0.93. The results indicated that substantial genetic variation is present and selection for widely-adapted cultivars would be effective for both characters especially test weight.
