A status of plants obtained from interspecific crosses of oriental lilly cultivar Marco Polo with Lilium henryi and L. henryi with cultivar Marco Polo was tested on the basis of morphology and C-band patterns of chromosomes. The positions of the secondary constrictions were found to be the best morphological markers. Also chromosomes of different C-band patterns from parental forms were chosen for hybrids identification. Four out of five plants cultivar Marco Polo x Lilium henryi and one out of four plants from reciprocal crosses were found to be true hybrids according to chromosomal markers.

Karyotypes of Hydra oligactis Pallas, 1766 (2n = 30, FN = 60) and H. circumcincta Schultze, 1914 (2n = 30, FN = 56) were studied in mitosis and meiosis, using routine Giemsa-staining and C- and Ag-bandings. It was shown that in H. oligactis, C-blocks are situated in centromere regions of all chromosomes. In H. circumcincta, NORs were found to be present in one of the larger chromosome pairs. The species have no morphologically distinguished sex chromosomes. They differ from each other in chromosome morphology, showing 30 M/SM/ST in the former and 26M/SM + 4A in the latter.

Karyotypes of five of Genea section Bromus fasciculatus, B.sterilis, B.tectorum, B.madritensis and B.rubens were examined to determine relations between them. The absolute and relative as well as the centromere index, were analysed. Idiograms of the investigated species were presented. A comparison of the species in their chromosome features revealed significant differences between diploids (B.fasciculatus, B.sterilis and B.tectorum) and similarity between tetraploids (B.madritensis and B.rubens). It also appeared that diploid B.tectorum is similar to tetraploid species, which may be indicative of the genome affinity between these three species.
