In recent years, the importance of B vitamins as biologically active nutrients with potential effects preventing the development and progression of age-related macular degeneration has been analysed. This work is a review of the current literature from the last 10 years, dealing with the subject of the properties of B vitamins and research providing epidemiological data on its intake and plasma concentration and their impact on the disease in patients with macular degeneration. The review confirms the important beneficial role of B vitamins in limiting the development and progression of macular degeneration.
