A carotenoprotein containing canthaxanthin and phoenicoxan-thin as the prosthetic group was purified from the body of the Chirocephalus diaphanus (Crustacea: Anostraca). The analysis of the proteins forming the complexes with the above-mentioned ketocarotenoids were found to contain 17 amino acids, mainly glycine, glutamine, proline, and asparagine with minimal amounts of methionine.
