The effects of vapour absorption on positron annihilation in cross-linked polymer were investigated. Contrary to linear polymers, absorption of vapour in cross-linked resin leads to the shortening of o-Ps lifetime. In vacuum absorbed molecules diffuse out. At room temperature desorption of hexane and hexanol is not complete; full elimination of absorbed molecules requires sample temperature increase.

Partial blocking of mesopores in the ordered MCM-41 silica by DC550 silicon oil was proposed as a preparation method of the material with controlled porosity and fixed pore size. The porosity of the samples with various content of DC550 was examined with the use of low temperature nitrogen sorption and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. It was shown that the oil blocks the primary pores by forming the plugs near its entrances, but also partially locates in the interparticle spaces. The comparison of the results obtained from both investigation techniques was used to make the first attempt to obtain the calibration of ortho-positronium intensity, depending on pore volume. This is necessary to improve the utility of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy as a porosimetric technique. The need to take the migration of positronium to larger free volume into account is discussed.

Structural phase transformations and magnetic properties of mesoporous MCM-41 template modified with iron and nickel salts were studied by nitrogen physisorption, X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The FeNi-oxide or the bimetallic crystal structure is formed for low and high Ni concentrations, respectively. The average size of nanoparticles is about 10 nm. About 70% of particles exist in a superparamagnetic state at room temperature.

We investigated three lunar regolith powder samples from the Apollo missions. Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 samples come from lunar maria and Apollo 16 sample from a highland region. In the present paper we summarise in brief results of measurements using photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), micro-Raman spectroscopy (RM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), temperature programmed reduction and oxidation (TPRO), thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and nitrogen adsorption. Parts of samples are visualised by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
