The purpose of this study was to examine the relation of being overworked with alcohol abuse considering also the beliefs, personality traits and DDA syndrome. Totally 60 persons have been tested. Temperament and Character Inventory by Cloninger, Overwork grounds identification test by Paluchowski, the AUDIT test and the CAST questionnaire have been used for the fieldwork. The findings indicated correlations of alcohol abuse and work addiction. The study also confirmed connections between personality traits and alcohol abuse reported previously by other researchers. Moreover, positive correlation between AUDIT results and Pure-hearted conscience (TCI , C5 scale) has been revealed. In fact, C5 has been found as an effective predictor of the AUDIT outcome, both for the whole examined population, and separately for each subgroup as well. The research upshot also indicated relevant coherence (p < 0,001) between working time and harmful drinking. The analysis has also showed two different patterns of alcohol abuse as a response to overwork situation – first which seems to be inadequate stress coping behavior, the second one resembling cross-addiction. Alcoholic family background was not found in this research as a relevant predictor of further problem drinking.
