Relationships of somatic build and functional parameters of the respiratory system in women with bronchial asthma

Celem pracy była ocena zależności między stopniem ciężkości astmy oskrzelowej a cechami somatycznymi, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem otłuszczenia ciała kobiet cierpięcych na astmę oskrzelową. Autorzy dokonali również analizy parametrów oddechowych w zależności od wielkości BMI. Badaniom poddano 50 kobiet leczonych w Klinice Chorób Wewnętrznych i Alergologii AM we Wrocławiu. Na podstawie wykonanych pomiarów obliczono wskaźnik BMI, WHR, wskaźnik Rohrera oraz masę tłuszczową. Analiza parametrów oddechowych wykazała, że w grupie pierwszej (kobiety z nadwagą i otyłością) wartości parametrów VC, FVC, FEV1 wskazywały na lekkie bądź średnie zaburzenia wentylacji płuc. Natomiast kobiet z grupy drugiej (o prawidłowej masie ciała) charakteryzowały się prawidłowymi wartościami parametrów oddechowych.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the bronchial asthma severity level and somatic features with, particular regard for fatty tissue level, of women suffering from bronchial asthma. The authors have also run an analysis of the respiratory parameters in relation to BMI values. The research group consisted of 50 women treated at Medical University Clinic of Internal Diseases and Allergology in Wroclaw. Basing on the measurements made the BMI, WHR, Rohrer's index and fatty mass were established. The analysis of the spirometric parameters showed that in Group 1 (obese and overweight women) VC, FVC and FEV1 levels indicated slight or moderate disturbances of lungs ventilation. Women from Group 2 (normal weight) had normal spirometric results.
