A two-dimensional, field-circuit model of a 55.5 MVA hydrogenerator is presented in the paper. This model takes into account the fractional-pitch stator winding, the rotor damper squirrelcage, nonlinear magnetization curves and the rotor motion. Verification of the model has been carried out by the comparison of the no-load and short-circuit characteristics computed using the finite element method with those obtained from measurements.
