Authors present a case of 54-year-old female treated for intramedullary epidermoid cyst. Patient complained of atypical pain and dysesthesia in lumbosacral region for many years. Patient’s complains increased before admission and were unbearable. Performed clinical and imaging examination revealed intramedullary tumour located in the terminal cone at the level of L2 vertebra. The patient underwent surgical treatment with total tumour removal. Histological examination confirmed epidermoid cyst. Intramedullary location of epidermoid cyst is very rare and constitutes of about 0.7% of all spinal tumours. Due to compression on nervous structures surgical treatment of epidermoid cyst is a method of choice. Authors discuss signs, clinical history, treatment and its results as well as histological findings.

Primary extranodal sites of development of lymphoid neoplasms are rare and concern about 5% of patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Extranodal development is more common in non Hodgkin's lymphoma and may reach 33%.A 27-year-old woman was diagnosed by a cardiologist for a short breath. On the physical examination no other abnormalities were observed. Echocardiography, performed by cardiologist, revealed a large tumor, overlaying the right ventricle and compressing the pulmonary trunk. Chest X-ray, ultrasound and CT-scan confirmed diagnosis. In fine needle aspiration clear, lucid fluid was obtained. Scintygraphy of the neck and thorax showed accumulation of the marker in the properly placed but enlarged thyroid gland. Patient was qualified for surgical treatment - cervicotomy and sternothomy were performed. The histopatological exam of the tumor revealed Hodgkin's lymphoma of the mediastinum (classical subtype NS-1). Following the surgery, adjuvant therapy was instituted. After the treatment PET-CT-scan did not show any kind of non-physiological radiomarker's accumulation in the monitored regions of the body and in in three-years follow-up the patient shows no signs of recurrence.

Bax protein, the proapoptotic member of Bcl-2 protein family, plays the key role in apoptosis pathway. The aim of the study was to assess the expression of Bax protein in breast cancer cells.Material and methods. Sixty-two breast cancer patients were included in the study. The control group encompassed 11 fibroadenoma patients. Single cells were isolated from defrosted samples and prepared for flow cytometry measurement.Results. Median expression of Bax protein in study group was 7.9% (range: 0-49.4%) and was significantly lower than in control (median expression 15.8%; range 4.9-30.9%; p=0.034). Expression of Bax correlated with expression of p53 and caspase-3 proteins (p<0,01, rank Spearman test). In patients under 70 years old and with positive estrogen receptors status the expression of Bax protein was significantly higher (p=0.03 and p=0.01 respectively).Conclusions. Lower expression of Bax protein in breast cancer cells may suggest the potential way of apoptosis avoidance of tumor cells. Correlations among Bax protein, p53 and caspase-3 are likely associated with active apoptotic mechanism in breast cancer cells expressing Bax protein. Further investigation with long time follow-up should be performed to establish the prognostic role of Bax protein expression in breast cancer patients.
