C-banding karyotype as well as the meiotic process of Acupalpus teutonus and Pogonus persicus were studied. A. teutonus has a karyotype with 24 mainly metacentric chromosomes, its meioformula is n=11+XY. The C-banding pattern showed that constitutive is located in the proximity of the centromere. The longer arms of the autosomes of the pairs 1,4,5 and 9 all being C-positive. In P. persicus, the diploid number is 22 (n=10+XY) with a predominance of the metacentric chromosomes in the karyotype. C-banding showed that the blocks of heterochromatin have proximal and distal location. In spermatogenesis achiasmatic division preavails.
The C-banding karyotype as well as the meiotic process of Acupalpus elegans and Bembiodion minimum were studied. A. elegans had an asymmetrical karyotype with meta- and submetacentric chromosomes: its meioformula was n=20+XY. In spermatogenesis, chiasmatic meiosis with diffise diplotene was observed. C-banding showed the existence of heterochromatin in the paracetnric regions of amost all chromosomes. In B. minimum, the diploid number was 24 (n=11+XY). The species had a symmetrical karyotype with all metacentric chromosomes. Female chiasmatic meiosis and very low chiasma frequency in the male were observed. The C-band positive segments were located in the terminal regions of chromosomes.
