The paper presents the results of the research on the influence of the 1st level of Active Rehabilitation System (ARS) on predicted life satisfaction in people after spinal cord injury in the cervical segment. The study employed the Cantrill Ladder. It was applied in two versions, the ladder “today” and the ladder “in the future” in the initial and final test. The study was carried out in a group of 94 men with quadriplegia aged 18-57 with the division according to age (younger and older group), time since the injury (up to 2 years and over 2 years after the injury) and the level of spinal cord injury (C5-C6 and C6-C7). The Active Rehabilitation System affected the improvement of life satisfaction (the ladder “future”) in 75% of the examined people. The greater improvement was noticed in the younger group and in the group with shorter time after the injury. The improvement of life satisfaction was independent on the level of spinal injury.
There are various causes of deafness which can appear at any stage of our lives. Therefore, different complications and consequences may be observed. Damaged hearing influences the way of communication and has a significant impact on every area of a child's life. The aim of this study was to evaluate general fitness of children who are hard of hearing at a moderate level as well as to demonstrate that hearing impairment can influence a child's physical development. In order to achieve these goals, the research was conducted in a group of 105 children at the age of 10-12, the average age 11. The experimental group consisted of 42 hearing-impaired children (14 girls and 28 boys). The control group was comprised of 63 hearing children (36 girls and 27 boys). General fitness was measured with the use of The Eurofit Physical Fitness Test Battery. The results showed that children with a hearing defect achieved worse results in almost all components of general fitness. The only test in which the group of hearing-impaired children proved to be slightly better than the group of hearing children was the static strength test. The research on hearing-impaired children who were using hearing aids as well as those who were not revealed that the use of a hearing aid can have a positive influence on test results.
Background. Contemporary sport requires a totally different attitude to health state assessment and body regeneration methods after physical exercise. The aim of the study was the analysis of relaxation levels in football training females after a head massage. Materiał and methods. The study group included 17 young female competitors subjected to relaxing massage. Wstęp. Współczesny sport wymaga zupełnie innego podejścia do oceny stanu zdrowia zawodnika oraz form regeneracji organizmu po wysiłku fizycznym. Celem pracy była analiza stopnia relaksacji kobiet trenujących piłkę nożną po zastosowaniu masażu okolicy głowy. Materiał i metody. Grupa badana - 17 młodych zawodniczek poddanych masażowi relaksacyjnemu. Grupa kontrolna - 17 nietrenujących młodych kobiet, studentek Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego we Wrocławiu. Obie grupy poddane zostały pomiarowi elektroprzewodności 24 punktów pomiarowych. Wyniki.
Background. Persons practicing judo are exposed to large neuromuscular excitation due to the nature of the effort they perform during the fight and during training. The stable psychophysical state of judokas seems, therefore, to be extremely important in achieving a high sporting level. The aim of the study was to evaluate the electrodermal activity (EDA) measured by the Ryodoraku method in judo players in comparison with the control group. Material and methods. The test group – 16 judo players subjected to two EDA measurement tests. The control group – 16 men, students of the University of Physical Education in Wroclaw, Poland. Results. In the initial test, no differences in EDA values were found between the control and the test groups. However, significant differences in results were noted in judokas after training. Greater excitation was found within the points located on the upper limbs. Conclusions. EDA measurement can be a useful diagnostic method for assessing the psychophysical condition of a player, which can make it easier for a sports team to make decisions related to proper training programming and recovery treatments.

Materiał i metody. Grupa badana – 16 zawodników judo poddanych dwukrotnemu pomiarowi EDA. Grupa kontrolna – 16 mężczyzn, studentów Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego we Wrocławiu. Wyniki. W badaniu początkowym pomiędzy grupą kontrolną a badaną, nie stwierdzono zróżnicowania w zakresie wartości EDA. Istotne różnice wyników odnotowano natomiast u judoków po treningu. Wykazano większe pobudzenie w obrębie punktów zlokalizowanych na kończynach górnych. Wnioski.
Celem pracy było pokazanie zależności pomiędzy parametrami zmodyfikowanego testu Wingate, TWB 5/15, a wynikami najważniejszych i zarazem najbardziej prestiżowych zawodów - mistrzostw Europy i mistrzostw Polski. Grupę badawczą stanowiła kadra narodowa w podnoszeniu ciężarów niepełnosprawnych. Wśród niej były 4 kobiety i 13 mężczyzn. Średnia wieku całej grupy badawczej wynosiła 33 lata, a staż zawodniczy 14,7 roku. W 5 i 15 s notowano wynik ilości powtórzeń zawodnika. Badania wykazały korelacje pomiędzy parametrami Testu Wydolności Beztlenowej 5/15 a wynikami sportowymi. Wzajemne korelacje tych cech w badaniu wiosennym były na ogół silniejsze niż jesienią, więcej też wśród nich było zależności statystycznie istotnych, poziom sportowy między zawodami nie uległ zmianie, średnie wartości wszystkich mierzonych parametrów wydolnościowych były większe wiosną 2006 r., a ze zmianą wyniku sportowego istotnie korelowała zmiana parametrów wydolnościowych.

The aim of this paper was to show the correlation between the parameters of the modified Wingate Test (TWB 5/15) and the results of the most significant and prestigious weightlifting competitions for disabled - Championship of Poland and Europe. The research group consisted of four women and thirteen men - representatives of Polish National Paralympic Team of Weight-lifters. The mean age of this group was 33 years and average training experience - 14.7 years. The examined weight-lifters had various dysfunctions, which included amputations (6 competitors), locomotor system diseases (9 competitors) and cerebral palsy (2 competitors). The Anaerobic Capacity Test 5/15 (ACT 5/15), a modified version of the Wingate Test, consisted in lifting a weight lying on a level bench (in accordance to IPF regulations). Competitors performed a total of five series. Duration of each series was 15 seconds. The number of lifts in each series was recorded in the fifth and fifteenth second for the purpose of subsequent calculations. There were one minute breaks between the series for the subjects to rest and for taking measurements necessary to determine their training capacity. Duration of the testing series and breaks was measured with Spokey electronic stopwatch. During every break the weight was increase by 5 kg. Weights were changed four times throughout the time of the test. Analysis of the research data showed correlations between the parameters of ACT 5/15 and performance of the competitors. Correlations of these traits were usually stronger in the spring than in autumn. The mean values of all measured capacity parameters were higher in the spring 2006 and the change in performance correlated strongly with the changing of the capacity parameters.
Jest to dyscyplina sportu coraz bardziej popularna wśród młodych inwalidów, którzy chcą wejść w środowisko osób pełnosprawnych, pracować z nimi i rywalizować. Celem pracy było określenie korelacji pomiędzy stażem zawodniczym a wynika-mi sportowymi kadry narodowej niepełnosprawnych ciężarowców, startujących w latach 2004-2006, ocenionej wskaźnikiem faktycznej sprawności w podnoszeniu ciężarów opracowanym przez Haleczkę. Materiał badań sta-nowiło 29 zawodników (5 kobiet i 24 mężczyzn) kadry Polski w podnoszeniu ciężarów osób niepełnosprawnych "powerlifting". U zawodników o stosunkowo krótkim stażu wystąpiła wyraźna i statystycznie istotna korelacja pomiędzy stażem i wynikiem. W miarę wzrastania stażu zależność ta praktycznie zanikła. W grupie mężczyzn ko-relacje pomiędzy wynikiem i stażem były w każdym roku wyraźnie mniejsze niż u kobiet. Tylko wśród zawodniczek zaobserwowano wyraźną i statystycznie istotną dodatnią korelację wyniku sportowego i stażu zawodniczego.

Polish disabled weight-lifters maintain a very high level of performance. This is a sports discipline that is becoming more and more popular among young disabled people, who want to work and compete with the able-bodied people. The aim of this study was determine correlations between the length of training service and the results of the Polish national team of disabled power-lifters in years 2004-2006, which were evaluated using the index of actual fitness developed by Haleczka. The research material consisted of a group of 29 power-lifters of the Polish national team of disabled power-lifters (5 women and 24 men). A strong and statistically significant correlation between the length of training and results was observed in lifters with relatively short service. This correlation declined along with the increase of the service length. In the group of men the correlations between the results and the service length were getting significantly lower than in women with every subsequent year of training. A strong, statistically significant positive correlation between length of training service and results was observed only among female power lifters.
Cel i założenia: celem badań było porównanie równowagi pomiędzy składową sympatyczną i parasympatyczną u osób po uszkodzeniu rdzenia kręgowego. Materiał badawczy: przebadano 10 nietrenujących mężczyzn po urazie rdzenia kręgowego w wieku 17-34 lat. Metoda badawcza: pomiary zmienności rytmu zatokowego serca (HRV) oraz częstości skurczów serca (HR) zostały wykonane za pomocą sport-testera S 810i firmy Polar. Zarejestrowane pliki HR posłużyły do analizy zmienności rytmu zatokowego serca w programie HRV Analysis. Wnioski: przewaga mocy w zakresie niskich częstotliwości może świadczyć o dominacji części sympatycznej autonomicznego układu nerwowego. Niższa wartość mocy całkowitej u osób niepełnosprawnych może wskazywać dezorganizację w funkcjonowaniu autonomicznego układu nerwowego.

Purpose of the study: the aim of the study was to compare sympathetic and parasympathetic balance in patients after spinal cord injury. Subjects: ten sedentary men after spinal cord injury at the age of 17-34 were examined. Method: the variability of the sinus rhythm (HRV) as well as the heart rate were measured by means of the Polar sport-tester S 810i. The collected data was used to analyse the sinus rhythm's variability in HRV Analysis program. Conclusions: the prevalence of low frequencies may signify/indicate dominance of sympathetic element of the autonomic nervous system. Lower values of the total force may show dysfunctioning of the autonomic nervous system after spinal cord injury.
Damage to the rotator cuffs within the shoulder girdle is one of the many causes of the painful shoulder syndrome. The main symptom is the accompanying pain limiting partial or complete mobility in the shoulder joint. Weakness and atrophy of the deltoid and supraspinous muscles of the shoulder are secondary symptoms caused by immobilization of the upper limb. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of the use of physical therapy in women with damaged rotator cuff muscles of the shoulder girdle. The study involved 30 women aged 45–70, who were divided into two groups: professionally active (n = 15) and professionally inactive (n = 15). The muscle strength of the shoulder joint rim, strength of the hand grip and pain assessment according to the VAS scale were analyzed. The assessment of upper limb fitness was assessed before and after 20 physiotherapy procedures. Professionally active women returned to physical fitness faster, gaining greater strength of the shoulder girdle, strength of the hand grip and reduction of perceptible pain.

Degenerative disc disease (DDD) in the lumbosacral spine is one of the most common causes of pain and the significant associated limitations in physical activity and daily functioning, with the vast majority of patients requiring long-term physiotherapy. Hence, the significance of proper diagnostics, locating the cause of the ailment, implementation of appropriate therapy and prevention. The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of outpatient physiotherapy on reducing pain and improving the function of the lumbosacral spine. The research group comprised 95 people (50 women and 45 men) with an average age of 53 years, all patients with DDD in the lumbosacral spine. They underwent 3 physical treatments: magnetotherapy, laser therapy, and systemic cryotherapy, as well as gymnastic exercises, aimed at improving physical fitness, and strengthening the muscular corset. The research methods included the Schober test, the Thomayer test (finger-ground test), the Visual Analogue Scale scale, Laitinen's pain questionnaire, and calculation of BMI. Physiotherapeutic treatments significantly reduced the patients' pain symptoms, significantly increased the range of motion in the lumbosacral spine and improved physical fitness. Better results of the therapy were observed in patients with lower BMI.
Zachodzą procesy zmiany składu ciała, ulega obniżeniu trwałość kości i elastyczności mięśni, ścięgien. Pomiar sprawności fizycznej wszech-stronnej wykonano testem „Eurofit”. Wyniki: Wyniki badań wykazały, że mężczyźni uzyskali w 7 próbach testu, z wyjątkiem gibkości i szybkości biegowej lepsze wyniki niż kobiety. Należy jednak dodać, iż zakres zmienności masy ciała a w szczególności wskaźnik BMI wskazywał, że zdecydowana więk-szość kobiet i mężczyzn miała nadwagę lub otyłość. Wnioski: Większość badanych kobiet i mężczyzn po 65 roku życia miała nadwagę i otyłość I stopnia przy podobnym rozkładzie wskaźnika BMI. Większe wartości wskaźnika BMI (> 25 kg/m2) stanowiły czynnik obniżający poziom sprawności fizycznej wszechstronnej badanych osób, głównie koordynacji psychomotorycznej, gibkości i siły eksplozywnej. Mężczyźni charakteryzowali się większym poczuciem równowagi ogólnej oraz szybkością ruchów ręki i koordynacji psychomotorycznej niż kobiety. Mężczyźni wykazali się większą siłą i wytrzymałością mięśni, natomiast kobiety większą gibkością. Natomiast nie stwier-dzono różnic w próbie szybkościowej.
