The magnetic-dipole interaction constants A and the electric-quadrupole interaction constants B of two n^{2}D_{3/2} states of ^{85}Rb were measured by the quantum beat method. The results are - for n = 10: |A| = 0.393(8) MHz, |B| = 0.141(13) MHz, for n = 11: |A| = 0.283(6) MHz, |B| = 0.100(11) MHz, and positive ratio B/A for both states.
The lifetime τ and the cross section σ for depopulation induced by collisions with ground-state Rb atoms were measured for the 14^{2}D_{3/2} state of Rb. The experiment was performed in the gas-cell conditions in a range of Rb vapour temperatures in the vicinity of 340 K. The lifetime value τ = 1970(130) ns, agrees with the theoretical prediction with allowance for the influence of blackbody radiation as well as of the effects due to core polarizability and spin-orbit interaction. The measured cross section σ = 6.5(3.1) × 10^{-12} cm^{2} is close to the geometrical cross section. This agrees with similar observations made by other authors for the case of the lower n^{2}D states of Rb.
The origin and dynamic properties of the green fluorescence of Cs_{2} excited by laser lines in the 457-488 nm range are studied. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of the 501-527 nrn range. The identified fluorescence line progressions are attributed to the E'(3)^{1}П_{u} → X^{1}∑^{+}_{g} transition. An extension of the attractive branch of the E'(3)^{1}П_{u} potential towards longer inter-nuclear distances is reconstructed by the semi-classical method. A narrow feature at 522 nm is found to be connected with a minimum of the difference potentiał. The lifetime values are measured. The multicomponent fluorescence decays are interpreted as evidence of perturbations of the E'(3)^{1}П_{u} state by a number of bound and repulsive states of dicherent symmetry. The predissociation rates are estimated.
We report measurements of the cross sections σ_{l-mix} for angular momentum mixing of the K(n^{2}F)(n=6, 7, 8) states with the K(n,l > 3) states, induced in thermal collisions with parent ground state K(4^{2}S) atoms. The experiment was performed in a cell heated to ca. 450K. The n^{2}F states were excited in two steps: 4^{2}S → 4^{2}P → n^{2F} by using a diode laser for the first step (a dipole-transition) and a pulsed dye laser for the second step (a quadrupole-transition). The measured values σ_{l-mix} (6^{2}F)=3.6+-2.2, σ_{l-mix} (7^{2}F)=4.2+-2.6 and σ_{l-mix} (8^{2}F)=8.0+-4.6 (in units of 10^{-13}cm^{-1}) are close to the corresponding values of the geometrical cross sections.
