In the paper the authoress has presented a geobotanical characterization of „Gaik” Reserve, estimated a preservation state of phytocoenoses as well as natural, scientific and didactic qualities, and finally, formulated utilization directions. In the reserve she has distinguished Tilio-Carpinetum stachyetosum silvaticae and T.-C. typicum, variants typicum and termophilous. In all shapes of an oak-hornbeam forest the authoress has identified degeneration phases and forms, resulting from 200 years’ utilization of the forest by man. She has pointed out the existence of 328 species of cryptogamic and vascular plants and also suggested an extension of reserve limits.

This paper presents a list of 262 lichen species, belonging to 29 families and 55 gene"ra, and their distribution within the mesoregion of Radomszczańskie Hills (WR), a part of the Central Little Poland Upland (Kondracki 1977) and within the adjoining fragments of the mesoregions of Piotrków Plain (RP) and Włoszczów Basin (NW). These data, unpublished up to now, collected in the years 1968-1976, throw some light on the question of the geobotanic appurtenance of this region of Central Poland. The lichen flora of this area is characterized by an important contribution of species associated with mountain, upland and lowland centers of occurrence, e. g.i Petractis clausa, Bacidia subincompta, B. intermedia, Thelocarpon epibolum, Coniocybe sulphurea, Chaenotheca hispidula, Calicium vlrlde, C. abietinum, Operographa vermicellifera, Schismatomma abletlnum, Lecidea scabra, L. meiocarpoldes, Acarospora heppii and Lecanora grummosa. A new for science taxon with the rank of form: Parmella fuliginosa for. endoferruglnea Czyż. (Czyżewska 1976) and a new species for the Polish lichen flora, Calicium llgnicolum Nadv., are also noteworthy. Distribution of 139 lichen stands is presented on Map 1. A list of the stands ind their abbreviations are contained on pages 228

The paper presents a list, distribution, and geographical analysis of 83 taxa of terrestrial lichens to be found in the Załęcze Nature Park, in the North-Eastern part of the Wieluń Upland tract. In field surveys there was used a method of a grid map (see: Fig. 1), while in desk studies the method of: cartograms (Tables I-V), isonomes (Fig. 2-5) and a comparative method. It is interesting to note the presence of a representative group of calciphilous, montane, upland-montane, and upland taxa confirming the fact that the Załęcze Nature Park belongs to the calcareous plateau of the Silesian- Wieluń Uplands (for summary see page 340-341).

In the Załęcze Nature Park there have been distinguished the following associations of psammophilous grasslands from Sedo-Scleranthetea class (Tables II - VI, VIII): Spergulo-Corynephoretum typicum, -cladonietosum, -festucetosum ovinae and -festucetosum psammophilae, Diantho-Armerietum, Sileno otitis-Festucetum and Festuco psammophilae-Koelerietum glaucae. They have been recognized by means of analysis of 146 phytosociological records made by Braun-Blanquet’s method (Fig.1) (for summary see page 520-522).

Załęcze Nature Park founded in 1978 protects the natural scenery of the most northern part of the Jurassic Cracow-Wieluń Uplands. Genesis of the park, its natural resources and their previous utilization, as well as scientific, educational, aesthetic and recreational values are described. The park is highly useful for recreation of people, for study and for teaching of the Earth history, geomorphological processes, human impact on the environment, flora and fauna. There have been preserved here historical monuments of material culture, relicts of old customs, and historical character of the landscape. One of important tasks of the park alongside its teaching and recreational values is the fact that it is to serve the ecological education of young people within programmes carried out by the Polish Pathfinders’ Association. The Association has its field station and training centre here; it conducts pathfinders’ camps, and carries its patronage over the park (for summary see page 62-65).

In the very middle of Poland the erection of a big quarry of brown coal is begun as well as great power station which will strongly affect environment of the region covering 20 000 km!. The biological investigations carried out in the years 1948/1980, i.e. the quarry was started, are summarized. The authors propose a new program of investigations and suggest that the region may be a suitable object for further ecological studies on biota and ecosystems, influenced with industrial pressure.

Summary The work contains the results of comparative analyses of lichens forest flora derived from the primeval forest complexes situated in north-eastern Poland. Some chosen traits of lichens' flora vary in analysed forest but in spite of differences, from lichenological point of view, they are all very precious forest areas on the Lowland of Central Europe. There are still growing many very rare species which disappeared from other regions or are endangered. In the forests there are about 51% of species which are on the national list of endangered lichens (E). Many of the lichens were found very vigorous which means that there are many good niches for their establishment and maintenance; especially in Białowieża Forest. This forest complex, in spite of some influence of human impact , is characterised by many features that distinguish it from other Polish forest areas and it should be treated as a refuge of forest epiphytic and epixylous lichens. From the lichenological point of view, the Knyszynska, Augustowska and Borecka Forests are only a little less valuable objects. The destructive human impact on lichens flora could be observed also in all the forest areas studied. The process of decreasing species diversity, extinction of stenotypic species, impoverishment of epiphytic lichens flora has being noted. A great majority of species from the genera Usnea and Bryoria are extinct. Permanent maintenance of many stenotypic species in Białowieża Forest, in the so called group of forest relicts, need the protection of all the area of Białowieża Forest as a National Park. Conservation in situ may protect characteristic habitats, in which stenotypic species, especially sensitive for human impact, can find good conditions to live and develop.

The occurence of 768 taxa of vascular plants was determined on the area of 154,8 km², and their distribution was examined by means of a grid map with lines every one kilometer. The aim of the studies was inventorying the flora at the moment the nature park was established in order to estimate resources of the local flora, protect it and follow up its further changes (for summary see page 274-276).
