Effectiveness of the Strengthening Families Program (SFP 10-14) in preventing psychoactive substance use among adolescents has been proved in several USA studies resulting in acknowledging SFP10-14 as one of the most effective programs in the world. But still a question remains about this program effectiveness in other cultural settings, like e.g. Poland. In RCT in Poland participated 684 parent-child dyads with youth 10-14 years old from 20 local communities. Anonymous, questionnaire data was collected from parents and children before SFP 10-14 implementation and after 12 and 24 months. Some positive SFP 10-14 effects observed after 12 months among older youth (at lest 12 years of age) in terms of reduced psychoactive substance use and improved relationships with parents, disappeared in the follow-up. But positive parental outcomes (improved skills and practices) remained stable after 24 months. Lower, than in the USA, effectiveness of SFP 10-14 in Polish context implicates re-analysis of the process of program’s cultural adaptation, context of its implementation and methods of evaluation.
